Unless you're a bona fide day trader my opinion is that timing the market is extremely difficult. I was calling a top in private company (tech) valuations in the 2018/2019 timeframe....who's the dunce now? Me. Ultimately I gave up on trying to forecast when the valuations would turn.

Good luck w/ the trading, but I'm gonna HODL ;-)

Opening price is a pretty standard thing for IPOs. It's set based on where the buy/sell orders meet. It's posted information prior to trade being open.

I almost didn’t allocate but I knew better than to choose 0. The FOMO would have been intolerable. $3k in funny money gains means $3k in free stock when it dips.

Irony here is that the cap gain will likely get offset by some Jeep 4xe purchases (or loss harvesting) …

The other irony is that Ford should be cashing out any second now to build their own gigafactory. Think about that. They hold a minimum of $11 B in Rivian shares and the new complex is projected to cost $11.4 B. Rivian literally could pay for their competition’s factory. Not good. ??‍

Offering price was 78, that’s what DSP and some institutional traders got. Those institutions not in the DSP/offering then went in and balanced to get the opening price which was 107. That’s what non-institutional “normal” traders got for the first ticker price.

The first trade is the first price that buyer and seller agree on. The "set" price is just to guide initial limit trades but doesn't affect anything.

I think the IPO shows a lack of leadership, in the EV space, on GMs part. Not to mention the fires from their existing EVs. GM really hasn't made a single compelling EV product.

I used the app, and just went to the trade section. Sold about 45 shares already to “cash in” a profit of $5k, ready to reinvest if the stock dips further.
