No you don't have to inform your insurance company lol where did you hear that? Forget whatever nonsense you've read, go down to Tesla and test drive a vehicle with FSD v13 for yourself. Then test drive any other vehicle, and tell me they're even remotely close in terms of capability.
You have to notify your insurance company if you make any modifications. This by definition is a modification, as you explained this earlier by interrupting the Rivian data flow.

I will await the next consultants report that ranks the many autonomous systems out there. Better still I will await a full FSD taxi service like Waymo does (no regulatory reasons to hold Tesla up).

Waymo is nothing compared to FSD. FSD works on any road, anywhere, using artificial intelligence to drive based on pure vision. Waymo only works in premapped areas with a remote driver to take over when it gets into trouble. You don't need a report to tell you which one is more advanced - also you can't buy a Waymo. You can buy a $30000 Tesla and add FSD for $100/month. Again I'm not sure where you got the idea that you need to notify your insurance company when modifying a vehicle. I certainly never have and won't be. You can add additional coverage for expensive modifications - i.e. lots of carbon fiber panels, PPF or ceramic coating if you want, but even that isn't really necessary. I got in an accident in my old car and my PPF and ceramic coating were fully replaced, all I had to do was provide receipts. those two alone were like $8000.

I farted in my seat and filed a claim.

I've been through this with several modded vehicles (substantial mods, this isn't really even a mod at all). They don't care, unless you need to add insurance for the mods themselves. Otherwise, with heavily modded cars and Jeeps, they don't care.

Yeah worst case they will just restore the vehicle to stock and not pay for the mods in the event of an accident. Not really a concern here.

Exactly. BTDT. Actually they let me have both the written off Jeep and new one for a few days to move all the parts.

Geohot (who founded / owns Comma.ai) is super respected in the tech / security research / reverse engineering / hacking world.

He definitely pushes the boundaries (as almost all successful tech bros do) particularly with respect to intellectual property rights & protections, but not a scammer by any stretch of the imagination.

I wonder if we can get some sort of group buy going here. Not even for a discount, but so he knows that there are a bunch of folks ready to buy.

Personally, I do a 400 mile drive on 2-lane roads pretty regularly (8-12 times a year), and would love to have great lane centering for this.

Don't forget, he's on Sony's poo poo list as well and that's a company that actively hates their customer base.
