Just so I'm clear, sorry for the ignorance ...

if I understand correctly, this is an unsanctioned implementation of comma_ai on Rivian R1 using a standalone camera, correct? If so, what is the objective of doing this development work? Is it to provide a competitive solution to Driver+ that works on any street (in the short term)? Or, is the objective to get Rivian to adopt comma_ai in favor of (and drop their) proprietary solution?

Well I'm not on YouTube but I did talk to him myself. Even got a free hat and bought a new Comma 3X on live stream!

What do you mean you are not “on YouTube”? Pretty easy to access and free!

I have a Youtube channel but I don't upload much to it. Maybe I will at some point but, point being I'm not a famous Youtuber. But the info I'm providing is straight from the horses mouth.

Rivian isn't going to abandon their own Driver+ and adopt Comma AI (although that would be an incredible improvement). Comma devices run Openpilot, a technically open source self-driving software that gets ported to new models in exactly this way - by community members and freelancer coders porting over the access for particular vehicles. Rivian incentivizes a lot of the development via a bounty system -

None of this needs to be approved of or sanctioned by Rivian. See all the other brands and vehicles that Comma has worked on for 5+ years or more. The only company that officially supports Comma is Aptera.

It even works for some others not listed here, like Tesla.
