I hear people are driving toyota's first full EV until the wheels fall off.I am skeptical, but once Toyota decides to jump in and do it right, they will be a force. I think their mistake may be assuming it will be easy. Toyota can hold Ford & GM’s beer.
I’m less skeptical than I was before. Their new CEO is bent on bringing electrification to Toyota. I currently own a RAV4 hybrid and absolutely love it and have said here before that if there was ever a 4Runner Prime or (and this is will never happen) a BEV 4Runner, I’d never look twice at an R1S (though I absolutely love the car and the company).I am skeptical, but once Toyota decides to jump in and do it right, they will be a force. 100% agree. I’ve had a few Toyotas and the are great cars and trucks. But I’ll never buy another one for what they did to not only delay their own EVs but to lobby governments to delay everyones EVs.My bet is Toyota is going to miss the boat on EVs and lose a ton of market share to all the new EV startups.
You simply can’t turn around a company that big, from culture to supply chain, to be 100% focused on EVs in a few years. By then, a lot of pure play EV companies and some legacy oems will have surpassed Toyota.
Their ego will be their downfall
I agree. They do seem to finally be “getting it” or at least saying the right things. I love my Tacoma just like you love your RAV4, but they have a LONG way to go before they can convince me they are serious. Not only have they simply not offered their customers any EV options worth a crap, they have actively been lobbying against any measures that improve EV adoption and ownership.I’m less skeptical than I was before. I agree with you though that they may assume it’ll be easy and THAT would be the path to their downfall.
Agreed. If they ever get in seriously and not just with a partnership vehicle like they did with Subaru for the bz4x it’ll be game overI agree.
