I'm still going through the 14 pages of this thread, but wanted to ask whether there's a way to dim this light or turn it off altogether while charging? I'd hate to advertise this so brightly in my suburban neighborhood.
I used this: https://a.co/d/4qcvuzf

Cuts out the vast majority of light, but definitely not perfect. I left a little window in the middle so my wife could still see at a glance if her car was charging.

Installed with one today for my mom.

Had to dig a 40' trench 18"+ deep to get to this spot.

anyone in Chicago have a recommendation on an electrician to install a 240V outlet for EV charging?? I’m sure all electricians will say they can do it, but I prefer one that has some experience with EV chargers specifically. My R1S is supposedly coming in Feb/March 2023, so I want to get this sorted before Winter.

I found my installer from a list provided by Enphase Energy (which bought Clipper Creek, the manufacturer of my charger). The folks on the list were not dedicated Clipper Creek/Enphase folks; they were local electricians familiar with all types of chargers. I'm sure you could find someone from their list:

So lucky I left some speaker wires in the wall and actually remembered where they were. Was able to use them to pull a wire snake through. Ran 6/2 copper in the wall without surface mounting conduit on the wall.

Nice. You are sticking with 40amp charging then on the 6/2 right?

Not sure why you’d say that. 6/2 is rated of 65 amps at 75c per the NEC tables. 48 amps on a 60 amp breaker doesn’t exceed 80% load rating.

6/2 is usually a Romex sheathed cable and max amp is 55 on a 60 amp breaker continuous load at 80% is 44 amps but very few chargers have a 44 amp setting so max would be 40.

If you are using 75c or 90c 6 awg thhn or similar in conduit with a 60 amp breaker then you are good for 48 amps.

As a side note although Romex usually is using wire inside the that has a 90c rating, it is against code to remove the sheathing as the wires are not individually marked with their rating.

Sorry I think I read your statement above as 6/2 Romex and not 6/2 wire. Your weight is 6/2 copper you would be fine but it needs to be in conduit. How did you get conduit in the wall? Maybe the speaker wire was in conduit?

Correct, I had run grey conduit everywhere I either put or anticipated putting a TV. In my garage I never got around to installing a TV, so I used my speaker wires as a pull string for #6 individual conductors.

Wow that's great. I have put speaker wire in the wall before for future use but never bothered to put conduit in. I probably should have, but expense, time, etc. So glad it worked out, looks great. I put a 48a Autel in myself and like it is the higher amps.... Now I just need my R1S before the charger is outdated :(

Doesn’t get any more simple or minimalist than this. 😂. I’m sure this is as clean as his new home will ever be.

Unistrut Trolley to deliver the charge cable.

What did you use to connect the charge cable to the trolleys?

Thanks,
CB
