2023 VIN 199xx and I still have the Meridian system and it sounds amazing with the Rock preset and all the 3D crap turned off. Built 2/2023 and delivered yesterday.

Are the door speakers supposed to have zero vocals, just bass/mid?

Regardless of number of speakers... Each speaker's input and output is restricted to certain frequency range by the crossovers at the amp. Vocals are typically between 100~400 Hz.

It's a small anecdote but I noticed in mkbhd's R1S review he points out how the R1T had Meridian audio which he liked, but the R1S doesn't have that (I assume it's the new version) and he says it sounds way way better. (!) Looking forward to any further comparisons.

I have a '23 18,xxx VIN R1T. I have the Meridian Sound System, but no sound out of what looks like speaker on headrest and on pillar at back of front door. The original spec for Meridian sound system said the truck has something like 18 speakers. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the Meridian sound system but not have the 18 speakers? Just wondering before I submit a service ticket for malfunctioning speakers.

I don’t think there are actually speakers in the headrests even though it does look like that on the diagram. Someone else said those speakers are in the headliner? Not sure about the other speakers you’re referring to.

Definitely not getting any sound of the ones circled in red. Haven't sat in the backseat to see if all of these are working

The ones in red in the front are not in the headrest, they are the elevation speakers in the head liner.

I would far rather a comparison review of the audio system be performed by a professional audio reviewer such as employed by Stereophile, The Absolute Sound or HiFi+. It might be an entertaining review from one of these car reviewers, but I doubt it would be as competent as one performed by a person who does it for a living and has the equipment and capability to measure its performance (like John Atkinson, for instance).

Those are not putting out sound either
Turn on the surround sound mode or whatever it's called. It's off by default and those speakers don't do anything. Turne it to "On" or "Enhanced" and they'll turn on.

It makes me wish they'd enable Atmos audio for Tidal, since it's clearly capable, but they haven't.

I got my R1S delivered (58xx) on Mar 30. It has the Rivian audio speaker grills. I've been having issues with the speaker in the headliner by the driver's seat. When the 3D Audio is set to "Enhanced" I often hear crackling from that speaker. Turn it to "On" and it goes away. Turning it to "Off" obviously disables that speaker entirely as others have noticed.

I created a service ticket and had a mobile service today. The tech replaced that speaker and added some foam around it. I'll see if that helps (we were both doubtful as it sounded like a software issue).

But what *was* interesting. The new speaker and the one he removed were both stamped Meridian on the back. So while my R1S has the new "in-house" audio system. The speakers, at least the headliner ones, are still Meridian speakers. However the speaker grills on the door have the Rivian logo now, and our delivery specialist was adamant the new system sounded better in the R1S.
