The prototype tailgate pad for a single bike, I'm absolutely in on. For me the old Thule works great, plenty of space between the bed and rack. Nice desert ride today.........The eMTB is new to me, what the heck, e truck, eMTB....regular ride Transition Spur (analog ;)..

I’ve had good luck with this:

https://www.tsugagear.us/product-page/pisgah-pad-single-set

It’s a pad made by a a company local to my hometown (Boone, NC). I ride a road bike and cross bike, but it was made for mountain bikes with large down tubes. Also, it stows easily under the back seat or in the gear tunnel. I’ll get a pic of it when I get back home from traveling.

@Law I would totally be a buyer for one of those pads if you ever make enough to sell a few. Looks perfect for my main use.

I wish I would have taken more pics of the rack situation, but the 1up Equip-D works great and doesn’t need an extension.

This looks fantastic. It does appear to more or less completely cover the brake lights though, which makes me pretty darn nervous 😬

Doesn't the R1T automagically switch to tow mode when something is plugged into the trailer wiring?
I am not sure, I would hope you could override that. Might be a good question for the ownerAMA thread.

That would be an oversight if not as there are several hitch mounted boxes that use the connector for lights.

I've been loving my 1UP Equip-D, but I think I wanna get a tailgate pad for local rides (I don't like the parking sensor being blocker + tailgate being blocked 24/7). Are there any models any of you have liked with the R1T?

I am the head coach for a NICA team and will be hauling a lot of gear for races. I went with a 1Up hitch rack since I already had one and it will allow me to close/lock the tonneau to keep loose items secure. The swing arm is the 1Up RakAttach size large. The gear guard cable will fit past the tonneau gasket while it's fully closed. I might have to buy the 14' GG cable to reach 4 bikes but the stock cable will work with 2 bikes.

The only danger is opening the tailgate with the rack under it. Definitely will ding the tailgate.

Here are some pics of the fitment.

Does the tailgate hit the rakattach when opened? If your bike rack was not there, (just rakattach) would tailgate hit it the red handle you think?

With the bike rack completely off, the open tailgate clears the Rakattach (when closed or open).

Any chance you could grab a side-profile pic with the hitch mount & rakattach stowed? I'm trying to get a sense for how much length it adds to the vehicle.

It offers to switch to tow mode when you connect a harness, but you can override it easily.
