2022 Rivian R1T
Update: 02/09/2025

I just got an update from the production and they have some delay and the completion date is 03/10, the date is pretty firm but I do apologize for this to happen, but rest assure I am closely working with them to make sure they get it done on time. Thank you for the patience.

Design has been updated and the estimate completion date for the first batch is 02/10. The cab camera cutout is there as well but just waiting for the acrylic pieces to arrive for test fitting.

We will continue to accept orders. The current batch of production is estimated to be mid January. Orders that come after this batch will be in queue until 5 orders have meet and I will be able to put in the next order.

1) Happy New Year Everyone! All order has been submitted and the cab camera cutout is now incorporated to the existing design! Due to the newly added feature, the production will be delay by about 10 days and will begin around mid January. As we get closer to the date, I will confirm with everyone on the built.

2) The eyebolt and standard bolt will both be supplied for fix the cap on the truck so the tie down is still functional.

I have created a website for the truck cap.

https://autofitpro.co/products/truc...ivian-r1t-2022-present-gen1-and-gen2-deposits

I have recently got a hard topper custom made for the R1T and wanted to know if anyone would be interested in group buying. Currently there is only one available here and it costs over $5k and 4 months of lead time.

The topper is made of black anodized aluminum alloy with several options available. The weight is roughly 85kg or 187lbs. The roof top static/dynamic load is 450lbs/720lbs. There are cutouts for the gear tunnel, cargo bar mount, and the trunk release. The tonneau cover will no longer work because of the mounting point.

It comes in 5 main pieces and the assembly took about 4 hours by myself, it's mostly bolting them together, putting it on the truck took another hour and half with 2 people. All the hardware/weatherstrip/sealants are included.

The first one that I have is a prototype and there will be a few changes for future orders.

1) the mounting point, currently it uses all 4 tie down points and the middle rail is misaligned, that will be fixed and align with the existing truck bed.

2) The optional side window storage box will have a 2" cutout for gear tunnel access.

We will need a minimum of 5 orders for this to be possible. Once I have gathered enough interest, I can create a website for the credit card payment and details.

A $600 + Upgrades deposit will be needed for the ordering, and the remaining balance will be due once it is ready to be shipped. A proof of image will be provided.

The price will be $2100, which includes the hard topper and all hardware. The shipping fee and custom clearance is included and it will ship direct to door.

The standard topper has three side opening options as shown below. It can be with mounting panel or fully enclosed. The sliding glass window will be a $130 upgrade.

The front and back can be either enclosed or with windows, I prefer the window version because you can still see the rear from the mirror.

The side storage is $220.

The lead time will be about 3 months. It take about 1 month to manufacture and 2 months to get here.

Does the top of the rack line up with Rivian crossbars mounted on the roof?

The cap is at the same level as the roof so I don't think the rack lines up with the crossbar, but I think you can add platform to make it level. I am going to take a picture later today.

Definitely interested. Does it block the bed view camera? I assume it does.

I am surprised it hasn't been asked yet, but what it the efficiency impact?

How easy to take off once on?

Also how bad do the cab brake lights reflect back into the cab or rear window?

Here is a picture of the crossbar on the roof. It will be leveled by adding a platform, and also goes above the antenna.

Yes this will block the bed camera.

efficiency wise, I do not see a quantifiable difference, which I assume it will be within 5% since it is mounted flush to the truck.

On a good day ~80F, I can get about 2.3miles/kwh. local driving more towards 2.5miles/kwh.

On a cold day ~28F, I am getting 1.8 miles/kwh for highway. local is more like 2miles/kwh.

It uses the four tie down points, so once you remove the four bolts, you will be able to remove the cap.

I think the brake light is blocked by the truck cap and so there is no reflection on the window.

Thanks, this is helpful. A few more questions.
  • How is the view looking back through the windows from the cab?
  • How wide is the gap between the front of the topper and the truck window? Small gap is better for aero but also makes cleaning the windows much harder too.
  • How tall is the opening from bed to bottom of rear window?
  • How tall once inside?
  • Hard to tell, but are the windows tinted? If so, can we get them not tinted? I definitely wouldn't want the one near the cab tinted and quite possibly the rear one.
  • Can you take a walk around video? That would be helpful.
  • Are all the locks keyed alike? I assume so.
  • How is NVH? Do you get any rattling or buzzing? How is the wind noise?
  • Does it touch the cab at all?
Overall, I like it and I'd say I am at least 70% on board to join a group buy.

Some feedback:
Glad you have access ports to the bed functions. I would maybe offer a rubber plug or something for those who want to seal that area up as I think a fair amount of dust could come in. We can do most of those functions from the phone app. Even if it wasn't a plug, a brush type closure you could reach through would cut down on dust.

An internal roof rack, such as a MOLLE setup could be useful. As well as some tie-down points inside the topper itself and maintain any in the truck.

Some type of seal/gasket, even if inflatable or similar between the cab & topper windows would cut down on the amount of cleaning you invariably need to do with a topper.

Great work! Overall, I like the design. It is the first one I could really see myself buying. I'd give it 8.5/10 overall so far.

I'm definitely interested. Not quite prepared to commit at the moment, but I'd say I'm at the 75% point. Please let us know when you get close to the definite yea/nay point. Thanks!

Pretty nice. I don't like losing the tie down points. I would think you could replace the bolts with an eye bolt or similar so you could still use those points to secure the topper and have a spot for ties and hooks.

I like this except for the mounting system. If it mounted to the rail rack points I think I would be very interested.

This is really good feedback
  • How is the view looking back through the windows from the cab?
  • How wide is the gap between the front of the topper and the truck window? Small gap is better for aero but also makes cleaning the windows much harder too.
There is about 1 3/4" clearance on the side and about 1 inch from the top. I can put my finger in but a thorough cleaning will likely require the cap to be loosen up. Maybe pressure washer can do the job.
  • How tall is the opening from bed to bottom of rear window?
The opening is about 34"
  • How tall once inside?
Inside is 36"
  • Hard to tell, but are the windows tinted? If so, can we get them not tinted? I definitely wouldn't want the one near the cab tinted and quite possibly the rear one.
Right now the cab is not tinted but the other 3 windows are. I assume that is for safety reason, but I think having a normal window should not be an issue.
  • Can you take a walk around video? That would be helpful.

I took a video really quick so not the best quality

  • Are all the locks keyed alike? I assume so.
It comes with 10 of the keys and they are all the same
  • How is NVH? Do you get any rattling or buzzing? How is the wind noise?
I haven't notice any difference, but because the truck itself is pretty well built, so I think the difference is pretty negligible.
  • Does it touch the cab at all?
Overall, I like it and I'd say I am at least 70% on board to join a group buy.

It comes with rubber seal to go around the entire bottom for weather proofing, and I sealed the joint very well so I haven't had any leakage so far. I do agree that there could be some dust accumulation on the crossbar mount.

An internal roof rack, such as a MOLLE setup could be useful. As well as some tie down points inside the topper itself.

I didn't like the Molle panel that came with it so decided not to install that on the bed. I will mention the tie down points on the other reply.

Some type of seal/gasket, even if inflatable or similar between the cab & topper windows would cut down on the amount of cleaning you invariably need to do with a topper.

That's a very good idea of getting the eye bolt instead. It just needs to be M10 60mm.

For the production version, the two middle mounting point will be shifted so that it aligns with the bed.

Looks tough! Is watertight? Looks like the roof structure is strong enough to step on, can you confirm? Are roof rails an option or removable? Also, what is the usable roof size (width/length, I guess w/o the rails if they come off). Sorry for all the questions, but count me as being interested.

Hope you don't get in trouble for using the Rivian name/font...

The Roof Rail is fixed, but it can hold 450lbs static load. I think it's best to add a platform for a more uniformed load. I can probably put my rack platform up there later to see how it looks.
