(Ancient Audi A6 gone) - 2 wheels-only for now Honda CB500X
the receiver for them is still clearly there
What is the "receiver" you're referring to? Above the rear doors is the light plus speaker grill combo and above the front doors its just a speaker grill.

Edit: Added picture of speaker grill from R2 web page.

My '01 Blazer had a grab handle spanning the entire passenger side of the dashboard. Before she passed, my elderly mother loved that truck (and hated every vehicle I had since).

Maybe we should lobby Rivian to get rid of the gloveboxes and add this, instead? 'cause, yeah. I'm sure people wouldn't find some way to complain about that. 😆🙄

Edit: Just editing my own comment to add - man, did we sure have a lot of buttons on the dashboard back then. Almost forgot what it was like to drive this thing. 🤣
That's strange, I don't see the window crank. Maybe the R2 needs one of those as a manual backup for the window button 😉

Is 9 inches a lot? Cx-9 has 8.8 and it's not an off-road vehicle.
Ground clearance isn't a good metric for the entry height. EVs most often have the batteries in the floor of the vehicle, so the ground to entry floor is going to be higher if everything else was the same. Similarly, ground clearance is going to be measured differently as the bottom of EVs is basically flat and something like a 4Runner would measure ground clearance at the rear diff.

Agree on battery adding height. But both vehicles are monocoque designs with IRS.

Right...but the bottom of the R2 will be thicker regardless.

In ICE, you step over the sill to enter. BEV won't have the deep footwell ( most of them) and is level with the sill. It's a difference, but not a big one.

If grab handles are a deal breaker for you, there's a mobility company called Stander Mobility that makes items that help mobility-challenged folks enter and exit different things like bathtubs and cars and beds. I met their founder a few years ago. Some really nice dudes working there.

That said, please cancel your reservation if you have one. That'll take me from 243569 to 243568! (I'm totally joking on the numbers but with a mid-March 2026 reservation I assume the back of the line is somewhere here)

This vehicle has not been delivered to customers yet and it amazes me how quickly negativity hits the internet. The answer is simple, don't buy one if it does not fit your needs. There are plenty of cost cutting measures OEM's use to lowe the price point on various trim or editions of the same vehicle. In fact, my daughter just recently purchased a 25 Ford Bronco and it has no grab handles on the ceiling. Sure there is one on the dash and one on the center console, but nothing on the ceiling. She did not realize that when she purchased the car and found entering and exiting to be cumbersome, but she found after market grab handles that suited her needs.

Interesting thread but I never use the grab handles to get into my R1S even when the suspension is high. Maybe I am more flexible middle aged man.

Not always for the driver to use. Sometimes people have disabled or injured people who ride or the driver themselves getting injured or ill. Life is always unpredictable. My brother was a gymnast, but he had to have multiple surgeries and sprained and injured his leg doing the sport. Mom had surgery on both knees due to military service and age. Dad has a pin in his hip from when he broke it playing basketball (or was it football. He did all the sports) when he was a teenager and with him getting older and going through cancer treatments its harder for him to move right now. They all have various injuries or medical problems throughout the years and if I need to drive them, its nice for them to have assistance. While it's not a deciding factor to me because those conditions are temporary (and if need be I can drive their SUVs), others may have permanent disabilities or illnesses.

Things happen I get it but as a passenger I haven't had issues with getting into the R1. Plenty of people can 't get into a 911, too low to the ground. Should they make a suspension that raises the vehicle so they can get in it? If the grab handles are deal breaker then look elsewhere. Some people won't touch and EV, or a car without CarPlay, or any other of the dozen reasons people don't buy a particular car. It isn't a safety issue its a choice.
