If you’re getting older and can’t get in a vehicle with 9” of ground clearance…don’t buy a vehicle with 9” of ground clearance. There’s also the tried and true method of grabbing into the steering wheel that’s been around forever in cars without pillar mounted grab handles.

Probably complaining like my wife. She always complained that the grab handles on my F150 were too far forward on the A-pillar. Then we got her R1S and she complains it doesn't have grab handles on the A-pillar.🤦‍♂️

that was the prototype. from the website and other youtube reviews, there are indeed no grab handles on the roof of the production model.

There are also images of production intent vehicles from SxSW that have handles, but only in the rear...

So it either has none, all, or some grab handles...

On the R1, I found that running boards help a heck of a lot for there not being grab handles to hoist yourself up into the car. But I'm still kind of hanging onto trim pieces that have a bit of flex when loaded, particularly if there isn't a lot of space to squeeze by the door being blocked by another car.

Once seated, I find I don't need a grab handle as a driver, but I always miss it as a passenger on our Model X, I'm always phantom-reaching for it even after 8 years.

How can they build the R2 with a 9 inch + ground clearance without grab handles to get in and out. This is a major safety concern, especially for older drivers.
They can and they will. If you think it's a safety issue don't buy it. Not going to change their mind now based on your post are they?

Respectfully, I don't share your concerns that this is a big deal or design flaw. No automaker has ever or will ever design a vehicle that satisfies the wants and needs of 100% of drivers. Every production vehicle includes compromises to one extent or another.

Rivian has appears to have delivered on its promises to deliver an outdoor adventure vehicle for the every day guy/gal; 9" isn't that high and doesn't tell the whole story. Yes, the seat height will not be low, but that is partly due to the skateboard battery design of EVs as much as ground height, putting the seat higher up in EVs. My R1T has handles, and I've put my hand into them to get up only a few times ever; I just grab the squeaky door handle and/or steering wheel to get in. I'm almost 60 and if I have problems later, I'll buy running boards.

I wish we would not give these types of posts a long life, but here I am.

in any case, this person joined on Wednesday. The first post was to warn us of RJ selling his stock. And now the second one is a huge safety issue. Sure handles are very helpful, to me lack of is not a safety concern.
