Great news, OoS just did very short but well controlled 50, 60, 70, 80mph tests vs a Model Y.

Worth noting - the 10% challenges show a much larger difference than the side-by-side runs. I think it's pretty safe to say the R2 is 20-25% less efficient than the Model Y (Performance) at any given speed. I don't see a meaningful/clear deviation as speeds increase.

One thing to note - the R2 was run on *FRESH* tires. Like ~0 miles. For the side-by-side it got better efficiency despite colder temperatures. I am thinking combination of brand new tires and wet road really did a 1-2 punch on efficiency in the 10% challenge test.
I thought when they started all of this they said the tires has ~ 1017 miles on them. Normal, IL to east or Raleigh, NC is ~ at least 850 miles?

Thanks to all the debaters…and detractors. I’ve added the Out of Spec findings to the top of my original post, and they happen to align closely with my earlier analysis. I understand some people still aren’t satisfied with the OOS results, so I’d encourage them to collect their own data and see whether it produces a different outcome.

That’s the beauty of science: test it, compare results, and follow the evidence.

You are getting some flak on here. But your 80mph estimates were spot on.

OOS just got 2.2mpk at 80mph during their 10% challenge.
My original estimate seems to be holding true based on RivianTrackr data (6,719 miles @2.57 MPK), the R2 is averaging around 2.6 MPK which suggest 100% range is 228.8 miles (2.6 x 88), or approximately 230 miles, this also matches up with a constant highway speed in the low 70s. No doubt the winter time range will shrink depending on how cold/where the driving takes place.

For those charging to 80% and driving until 20%, this yields a usable range of nearly 140 miles. This is ~30 miles less than the Gen 1 R1 group (128 kWh pack).

So the net result is the R2 is approximately 18% more efficient than the R1. But the 45% smaller battery has a big impact and means real world usage (20-80% SOC) is 20% less range than the Gen R1.
