Hey folks

I recently finished developing a cut pattern for the Gen2 headlights. Unlike the Gen1, the were PITA to get to a place where it's DIYable, but I am happy with the results.

As such I just released it for anyone looking to protect their headlights with Clear PPF or protect + style with tinted PPF:

Good question! On Gen1, the headlights were all flat surface. The big front light bar flat and the side lights were flat but folding back as per Rivian's design. In Gen2, the side lights and the light bar are no longer flat - they make some waffle-like shape if you look from the side. I tried only putting PPF on the flat part of that shape but that leaves about 40% of the headlights exposed. Furthermore, if you go for tint, you get massive light bleed from the sides. That's why I've decided to wrap around that shape so you get fuller coverage and likely no light bleed (depending on install skills), but going around these curves takes time and requires a heat gun to make the PPF softer so it would fold and stick.

Thanks for making these and the install video. I'm awaiting my gen2 R1S. Can you describe who is your target customer for this ppf? The ppf shops around SoCal charge anywhere from 5-8k for a full edge ppf wrap.

Great question!
For now, our target customer is the DIYer who either does it to save money or for the love of it, or both. I am finalizing the new bumper lip without hooks - hopefully next week, and once that's done too, I will release full front & full wrap for Gen2 too...at this point, it's just the bumper lip remaining to allow me to do that.
In the spirt of transparency:
1. The full wrap I've developed does NOT wrap around edges on most panels (yet). A shop will likely wrap around the edges.
2. I have it on my todo to make a version that does wrap around the edges, as I also want to release a satin wrap where this is absolutely needed (to wrap around the edges).
3. For the time being we are focused on being a designer & manufacturer, but we'll do a soft launch into services (wrapping/installations) very soon. Soft launch will start with Cybertruck as it's an easier vehicle to work with both pre-wrap preparation and actual wrap, and once I feel confident in what we're doing we will likely start offering the service for all of our products. I hope to be able to achieve lower price than conventional shops too, because we control the cut models (as I make them myself) which allows me to iterate on them until they are at their easiest version for installation, be that by a DIYer or us. But let's see how feasible this turns out to be, time will tell.

I will be honest - I don't know first hand. I live in California (if it matters in terms of weather etc) and all my cars almost always have front PPF/tint as I design the cut patterns, do the install videos etc and in the end I just leave it. I've never had any hazing or any other issues. Would I have had them without the PPF? No idea to be honest. I've seen people who say that PPF prevents it, I haven't had the time to dig into the science behind this. I can tell this much - the PPF has an UV reducing layer to prolong the life of the PPF itself, so that might be what's giving the above benefits but again - I can't personally verify it.
How long they last - should last 5+ years. If not, let me know - all of our products are with warranty and I stand by them, so I will send a free replacement if there is an issue with the material itself.
