Sorry for the dumb question or if this has been answered already, but how exactly does this connect to the Rivian? Is it just a camera that mounts to the windshield, and a wire to the OBDII port? And the rest is done in software?
Partially correct, but the cable goes from the windshield unit to a harness connected in the passenger side footwell.

I also have another (dumb) question that I'm sure is probably answered elsewhere.

When running Comma 3X on a Rivian (or any EV for that matter), does it factor in / utilize regenerative braking, or is physical braking all that is in play? If it does factor in regenerative, is it able to read the specific setting (i.e., low or high) from the Rivian or do you have to somehow set that in the comma device?

Initially had no interest in this but the positive reviews coming in have started to pique my interest a little (assuming someone is ultimately able to solve the speed control issue on Rivians).

Edit: Nevermind - I guess I just answered my own question with the speed-solve comment. If this is just using the built-in (Rivian) ACC to control speed, then braking will be entirely controlled by the Rivian system for now, but I guess the question still stands for if/when they ultimately solve speed control.

You can use the release 3 staging fork. Just go to https://openpilot-test.comma.ai/ and load from there. Don't let it install OpenPilot (OP) from the main screen when the device starts up. Also make sure you set up a connect account and scan the barcode on the device and have it added it to your account.

The latest updates will be automatically pulled from that release fork until it goes into general release as part of the main OP software. Just make sure you connect it to WiFi or subscribe to their service to keep getting the updates. Once it is setup it, it will let you know if a new release is out so you can update it. Very simple, just like Mac or Windows updates at that point.
I assume this means that Jakub's fork has already been integrated into the release 3 staging fork of core and we don't need to load a specific fork? And if the device connects to wifi it will automatically update as this fork and changes get incorporated into general release?

Does anyone have any pictures/videos of how they ran the USB cable from the screen down to the connector box in the foot well? I've watched the ElecTech Youtube video and given the trim gaps on the A pillar and roof that seems reasonably easy to do, but has anyone done anything different than using the door seal to get it down to the foot well? I have a phone mount on the drivers side that I ran down under the dashboard top trim and behind that triangle shaped side trim and was hoping I could do something similar with this.

Thanks!

Thank you!
He ran his beside the rear view mirror cover trim. I haven't tried it yet, but I have heard where others ran it behind the trim.

Would this work when tow mode is on?
I went out to test tow mode and tried to use my 7 way trailer harness checker and my 7 way to 4 flat converter as well. Neither could to trick it into using tow mode. I may try with my trailer this week as on the Discord channel people need the info.

I don't see why it wouldn't work as OP isn't using controlling speed. The ACC just turns into dumb cruise control which could still work with OP.

For now, I just ran along the passenger door but will change that this weekend when I have time. Need to remove the OBD adapter and try using the jumpers with the harness for power so I can eliminate it. That is the latest version of the harness and I had to use the older setup to get it to work.

On a side note, I've driven several hundred miles with it now. I pretty much use it everywhere. It is pretty much smooth as buttah. It doesn't do any of the Tesla stuff where the lane widens for an off ramp and the car tracks the line on the right that is going to exit and then abruptly cuts back.

The lane change feature is very smooth but you must check it is clear yourself. Then all it takes is a gentle nudge on the wheel to move over. Much smoother than Tesla FSD lane changes.

How do you install the Rivian fork?
I posted the URL in another post here. In that release fork it has the Rivian code and pulls it automatically when you connect to it. It should be in the normal release pretty soon.

FWIW... I too ordered up the comma 3X & received it last week. The Chun Mag Quick Mount was ordered as well & should arrive by next week sometime & I did also order the Harness thru Lukas (in Germany) to help him with the development of this project & I hope to get his version of the Gen1 Rivian Harness by end of March or sooner... I can't wait for "hands-free" driving that was the main reason I preordered my R1S (aka "Tarkus") back in April 2021, just wished Rivian hadn't given up on that promise... buy I digress....

I got room for one more gadget in my "Mobile Wireless E911 Drive Testing Office"...

I saw your setup on Discord. Impressive. Mind me asking what it is that you do in that. And don't you have any trouble with your line of sight being impaired?

I test the Accuracy of Wireless E911 Calls by driving around a given county per day and making some 300+ test calls & no line of sight blockage with the current setup. I've been testing wireless E911 calls for some 20+ years (inside building using Z-Axis & outside driving). I luv to drive...

Does this drain your 12V or do you unplug the cable after every trip?
The normal install is on a switched 12v. No power when the vehicle sleeps.

I had this same question, so I poked around the Comma Discord server and found that it's supposed to shut itself off after a little time. When I asked about this in the Rivian channel on that server, a Tesla owner confirmed that it has that behavior in their vehicle, so presumably Rivian will be the same and run away battery drain is no more an issue for us as it is for a Tesla owner.

If you're concerned about it, though, I've also seen mention of a magnetic mount so that you could easily connect and disconnect it when you'd like to be certain it's not going to drain your 12V - like maybe if you're going to be parked for a long time while away on a trip or something.
