Um, wait. That sounds like a very simple approach. Does that simply mean a motor that can start up without a huge power draw?

Can a lot of motors have a “soft start”? Like, could my well pump have a soft start? Can my pool pump?

If we can reduce the amps needed to start a lot of appliances, that could allow us to get by with smaller generators, batteries, wires, and the like.

I still want my Rivian motors to be able to do a very fast start, but my furnace? There I’d rather have a lower power draw.
I believe a "soft start" is just a capacitor so you could add it to any motor AFAIK.

Glad to see they are tilting the mirrors in reverse. Our Rivian is the only vehicle that doesn't do that.
BUT!! I used to use the garage door opener that was on the driver display and the right side steering wheel button while at home. Some genius decided to get rid of that feature. WTF??? Why??

And, while I am whining, how about on the drivers display putting the time and outside temperature... Sort of like most modern cars built after 1995......

I still use the right-side button for my garage door. Is yours not working anymore?

Yeah, that didn't happen. The feature still exists, yours is just broken. Try a software and vehicle restart.

I’ve seen this before. I went in a toggled easy access (I think that is what it is called to pop on as you arrive) off, then on and it worked fine after that.

It worked well with the Tesla. I charge to 90% each day, and it would be nice to not be sitting at 90% for 3 hours each night. Also, starting your drive in the morning on a warmed up battery is more efficient, I think.

I could change my start time to midnight, but that won't be enough on longer travel days, and I don't want to constantly have to think about when my charge starts. So 9:00 PM it is, so I can take advantage of the off-peak credit and get a solid 9 hr window to charge.
Yup. My MINI Cooper SE had charge for departure and used the same schedule for the HVAC just by toggling a check box, it was glorious and required no thinking. If you went two days without a drive cycle it would disable the schedule. With my Rivian, I always use one of the trip meters as a since last charge meter, so I take the kWh used (with some buffer) and my charge rate of ~5.2 kW and get the number of hours I need to reach my target. Gets a little more complicated if I need more than my normal 70% charge, but still easy to calculate. Then I manually adjust the charging schedule so that it finishes close to departure to keep the battery warmer over the winter. It's been working really well for me, but there's no reason why the truck can't do this calculation on its own. I'd certainly rather set the charging window to include my full ToU window and have it figure out the start-time to reach my preset before departure.

As for everyone thrilled about the tilt-down side mirrors, I've had blind spot mirrors installed from day one to aid backing into a parking spot and allowing me to see the rear wheels off-road. The cameras do a pretty good job, but with the stitching in the overhead view it's not as accurate as the mirrors. Sometimes I'll use the tire-specific camera view, but would wish they could display the front and rear at the same time...so I use the overhead view 98% of the time. When I had my MINI it had the tilting mirrors, but could easily be disabled with a switch on the physical mirror controls. You could also code it with BimmerCode to set how much they tilted as from the factory they tilted so far that backing up my driveway meant I couldn't see where the hell I was going.

14 pages of commentary on a yet to be public and seemingly minor OTA, I'd say Rivian is doing pretty good... and the pessimists are wrong on the company's operations.

I would like to take it one step further and be able to program in a trip for the next day with departure time and have it calculate how much charge is needed to get to my first charging stop plus a little bit of buffer. It's like an easy button for road tripping.

Edited for grammar.

It's probably just looking at the car in front of you. Too many variables with trying to look at the actual stop light.
my 2020 mercedes has an option to open up the front camera and show the lights on the screen when you are stopped at the front of a light. its nice when there's a ton of sunlight obscuring your view that the camera has a better angle on. that alone would be a great add. that said, I imagine they Rivian should be able to get to get the light change state through from the camera now - 5 years of compute later - and it's not actually driving, more alerting you to look up, pay attention, and confirm the light state before moving from a stop.
