Most of the cool stuff is Gen2. Good update but makes me want my R2 even more.

But my fear is if you early adopt for R2 then how long before R2 Gen2 and again, those of us that helped the company going at the outset by having faith get somewhat shafted by the lack of upgrades available? I love my Gen 1 R1S but I feel we are being slowly forgotten

That's the nature of tech. It's no different than smart phones or computer hardware. Best to just accept it unless you have the means to upgrade with every new revision. Be happy G1 are getting any new features. I can't say the same for my Audi.

Not only is it the nature of tech, even so for cars. Look at other brands, ICE and EVs. Have they gotten as many updates since launch as the Gen 1?? Not many do. Planned obsolescence is and has always been a thing. Anyone who is just feeling it now haven't given it thought in the past.

One thing people are not talking about is a seat and steering wheel recalibration. I was feeling that my driver seat had not enough travel. I'm 5'6" so I was really perplexed what tall people did. I just felt like my seat didn't even go far back enough for me. I got the update today and it prompted a seat recalibration. I easily got another 18" of seat travel. I can't even reach the peddle from the farthest back now. Nice one.

You can go into the service menu and recalibrate them whenever you want. They added that a long time ago.

Although I use mirror tilt in all my other cars for parking, the surround view made a good substitute. I realize one of my enormous gripes is trailering and 4wheeling where the car tends to go into park if you need to stretch out the side window to see back. The surround view is a 2D depiction. Looking out the window to the rear is 3D. However mirrors are also 3D. Simply looking at them at different angles creates a 3D image your brain can process. Mirror tilt might be more useful than I first thought.

Gen 1 R1s. When I put the car in park, the drivers door stays locked. I need to pull the handle 2-3 times to get out. Ideas?

Couple of first impressions:

1. EXTREMELY HAPPY that Rally Mode is included for my Dual Max AT Gen2 R1T!!! I'm leasing and was not going to upgrade to Performance because of the price but was pining for the Rally Mode as most of my off-roading is on Colorado dirt trails not really rock crawling.
2. Wheel and Tire Swap: Disappointed you can only choose the limited set of tires provided to get the correct wheel sizes. I have Nokian 275/60R20 Nokian Winter/Snow so I have to choose the Goodyear All Season 275/60R20 tires to get the correct sizing. I can choose Custom Winter/Snow but there's no way to enter the tire size for a custom tire. Hopefully a future update will allow us to name the custom tires and enter the tire size.
3. Will try hands free driving this afternoon...

I still don't understand why this is a thing, there are cameras that turn on (automatically) and show you exactly what you need in reverse all the way down to the wheels and how close they are to a curb?

At the end of the day I'm glad they added this feature because clearly folks want it and I appreciate Rivian listening to their customers, so happy to see people happy about it, I just don't see a need for it.

The camera view for wheel close up loses the 360 view, reverse tilt give you the ability to see your wheel and still have the 360 top down view.
