Do we know if the 12v battery (or is it batteries?) is lead acid, AGM, or li-ion?

I tried using the search but didn't find any clear answers, so apologies if this has already been covered.

I am wondering the same. I did read somewhere that there are 2 12v batteries.

I have an open e-mail with Rivian CS regarding the 12v system. I will add that question and let you know if I hear anything.

I was told it was two 6V batteries in series.

That would be surprising. Do you recall where you heard this. My assumption is that with the location the batteries fit behind the frunk there are space limitations that necessitated two narrower batteries.

From the manual - two 12 volt batteries, does not specify type:

i wonder if 12V battery management will be the same as Tesla resulting in lots of 12v cycling and reduced life

This was last week. The guy could’ve been wrong though. He did say they were behind the drink though.

I’m pretty sure our former Kia Soul came with those.

I shouldn’t even pretend to bash them. We bought ours new in 2012 and it was still going strong when we traded it in with 217,200 miles. We paid around $3,000 in unscheduled maintenance repairs over the life of the car.

edit: typo

Disappointing that they went with primary (12V) batteries at all. No need for those with modern 90%+ efficient buck converters that can draw off the huge traction battery till the cows come home and would never need replacing.

Maybe a good candidate for the aftermarket?

does not specify type:
Other than calling them "Traditional" in a few places, so they might be lead acid, of all things?
