@gerrylum will know better than I on the progress, but they have been trying to recruit a couple of Gen 2 owners to try to get it going.
Indeed. It's not currently compatible with Gen 2 simply because there hasn't yet been any work put in to port OP over to it. I'll bet once Rivian starts charging a subscription fee for RAP+ that there will be some more interest in doing so.

That being said, if you have a Gen 2 and are willing to be a guinea pig, Lukas is looking for volunteers to help create a Gen 2 port. Let me know.

Apologies in advance if this should already be self evident, but is the added value of this less for a Gen 2 (May 2025 build) R1S?
If we eventually ARE able to port it, Openpilot does have many advantages over the current state of Gen 2 autonomy including the fact it works on ANY road and even off-road environments. Then there are forks like Sunnypilot that have what I would now consider essential features like MADS that I can't imagine NOT having anymore.

Retired from construction.
Using the basic Comma, does that disconnect the basic lane change side cameras and follow distance scroll wheel without having to pay an additional $300 for the Lucas harness?

With the basic harness, Rivian ACC is used for longitudinal control, and you can use the scroll wheel. Blind spot cameras work fine.

On the default OpenPilot software, it's as @godfodder0901 said; the standard Rivian ACC is used for throttle-control, so the behavior on the steering wheel scroll wheels / buttons is the same.

Switching to the SunnyPilot software requires the upgrade harness in order to keep those steering wheel controls working. There is a branch of SunnyPilot which is now outdated (as of like a week ago, so it's still highly usable), which lets you adjust speed & follow settings on the 3X itself.

The side-view cameras work on all versions of OpenPilot/SunyPilot. Blind-Spot-Monitoring also works, however an auto-merge will not be prevented unless you're on SunnyPilot + Upgrade Harness.

Simple answer is that when using the basic Comma setup (harness only), the ONLY thing the Comma 3X controls is auto-steering.

Everything else is controlled with the default Rivian systems.

Gerald is awesome. He helped me installed the unit. Although, it didn't work out, but greatly appreciated his efforts. I might venture back to it at another time. Still have the magnetic mount.
What didn't work out exactly?

Many errors that would not clear even after a reset. My thinking is it was a bad harness. Errors went away immediately after just disconnecting the harness - not even reconnecting the AXM. Bizarre behavior that I have not seen before.

Oh man, I just bought one two weeks ago and they don’t price match. Guess I’ll have to return and purchase a new one.
Just FYI, geohot's official account posted on Reddit yesterday that they will ban anyone who does that. While I generally like George and the work he's done over the years, I really don't like the messaging on that post.

Thanks. I mean, I understand fully why they would say something like this. But I think they should update their website (rather than Reddit who some people don’t use) by saying that instead of having this posted in their FAQs. Like don’t mention the return policy under the price match question.

100% agree with you there. Regardless, install continues to scare me away from this (as well as the ~$450 USD in harnesses / adapters / taps needed to make it work correctly - don't care about longitudal control, but do care about blind spot on lane change).

Still sitting on the sidelines debating though & will see if some lake beers change my mind on ordering over the weekend:like:

I do have to say that YouTube really helped me. Install took about 10 minutes but maybe I got lucky.

I just wanted to add that I am supper happy with the stock Comma 3x with standard Open Pilot. Coming from owning three different Tesla's in the last 10 years I was expecting similar lane keeping in my R1T. But unfortunately Rivian just doesn't support that on most of our roads.
It is definitely a better system than Tesla's autopilot. On long road trips your passengers don't even know when you have moved over to avoid a pot hole or adjusted your lane positioning when passing a wandering semi. No loud autopilot disengagement alarm or sudden unexpected steering. With that my wife would always wake up and tell me to turn that dam thing off!
The cooperative steering is similar to the control wheel steering mode that the B737 has. Not many pilots use it but I would use it if I ever didn't want the loud autopilot disengagement alarm blasting in the cockpit when I needed to adjust the flight path.
I'm using the Rivian speed controls and although not perfect is fine for me.
I'm over 60 now and found the hardest part of the harness install was contorting my body and forcing my large hands around the bracket. I tried all kind of tools but in the end could only do it with my fingers. Also, I found it really helpful to have a bench that is the same hight as the foot well to lie down on.
I would love to have a Comma AI bumper sticker to help spread the word. Does anyone know if they make those? It would have been nice to get that included in the initial purchase.

Mine came with a little Comma sticker that I put on my back window. Just the comma logo so kinda subtle, but IYKYK.

I'm still using the SunnyPilot that allows me to control Long by using the buttons on the UI. Do you know if I install the update will the UI buttons disappear?
