I think the job of a new color isn't to please everyone who liked the old colors.

It's to attract people who DIDN'T want the old colors.

I like all the bright colors, especially those that stand out and make the vehicles visible.

I loved my purple 1998 Nissan XE pickup. Nice memory!

I can almost guarantee your wallet will be better off wrapping your current Tri in this color.
So true. You can probably actually improve on the color. There’s something about the RIVIAN color palette that adds a certain cloudiness. Maybe this purple is different in person but that’s what I’m seeing in the current color schemes.

My wife will be upset with me if I get a trade-in quote for the trimax I just bought for one of these. I don't want the quad for anything over the tri except this color, though.
Maybe consider a wrap instead? Haha. You do you though. Do what makes you happy =D

I generally love purple cars but have really only thought about them on smaller vehicles, especially some of the purples BMW has had over the years. This would look great on an R3x, but I’d need to see it in person on an R1S.

It's not fair to bring in Mazda. Soul Red Crystal is from another timeline entirely.
Truth. My wife bought her CX5 Turbo because of that red. And when she got t-boned, it took a bit of work to exactly replace it because she demanded the Turbo trim with gloss black and that red was the only color she’d accept…
It's a metallic purple paint with metal flakes -- closeups

Love the purple. If olive wasn’t my all time favorite color, purple would be. Though I might demand a lavender interior to mirror the forest green/edge exterior/interior combo!
I do wish there was a true olive…my forest green and the launch green swing left and right of that. But unless they bring back forest edge interior, I’m not trading.

I showed it to my wife and her immediate reaction was that it was Grimace purple, of McDonald's fame.

I showed my wife and her response was "you absolutely will not get that color...looks like a eggplant.".

I like wild colors too....just not this one....

Have to appeal to everyone right?
Definitely not! I love options! More the merrier! Just purple..not my thing on such an elegant vehicle. More something I would consider on a GT3 but even then....probably wouldn't go that direction.

But It will be fun to see on road anyway!

This is reminiscent of specialized colors like Mary Kay pink.

The metallic component makes me think this isn’t anything Rivian is planning on offering the public, but is simply a one-off custom paint job. I seriously doubt it has the broad appeal to warrant offering the color. Rivian’s ethos has been using either bright colors reminiscent of emergency vehicles (yellow, red, white), or variations on land/sea/sky tones, so as to blend in with the environment.

Producing a clown car doesn’t fit the mission.

I am the one that took the pictures at the San Bernardino RAN. It is a quad motor gen 2 with bronze rims, and is not a wrap. I was able to open the doors. The person driving the vehicle does not work for Rivian, he works for a movie studio. And they are using it for transportation or in the movie, he wasn't specific. He was saying that he was supposed to be on set at Cher's house but because of the fires they were not allowed in the area. From what I am hearing this is supposed to be a new color choice.

thank you Gonzo. That is helpful information. Did he happen to say when / where he picked up the vehicle? I'm wondering if it's newly built and they've started production... or if it's from past June when they built initial cars for debut.

I know, I'm more lamenting that had I known this purple was the plan it would have pushed me to the quad. The only reason I got the storm blue is that it is the special ascend color. I think it's okay, but it's bland and looks too much like wet cement grey.

Yeah this is a fair point. Rivian's colors, except red canyon, are a little opaque for my taste. A good paint correction and ceramic coating helps to brighten them up some but they still aren't quite right. I'm the kind of guy who pays extra for the custom colors when offered. I don't like the boring colors.

I would absolutely buy this color. Love it. Love the purple reflective anodization of the rims too.

why dump Compass Yellow and then add this? its going to have the same if not lower take rate. i get they might want a new color for the new quad but this is risky.

it also doesn't fit their previous MO of not leaking colors. my guess is this is a "test" to see how folks respond.

id go another direction. maybe copper, dust/sand, Slate and Evergreen which they teased a long time ago or even a more bold green or grey. folks will more likely buy those than purple.
