As my R1T is quickly approaching 60K miles, I started looking for an extended warranty. So far Rivian Management has declined providing an extended warranty and although my truck is relatively very reliable, I'm looking for a third party to buy that extended warranty.
Anyone with info? I'm waiting on couple of companies to see if they will take this challenge.
Can anyone with out of warranty vehicle share repair cost if any?
My truck had only two major issues since I got it. The first was bad airbag sensor that required the replacement of the driver seat. The second issue was leaking suspension dampener on the rear left wheel that caused the vehicle to be unleveled while driving.

In cars, or when I had boats, I only took an extended warranty if it was thrown in for free (it was for the boat). Typically however, extended warranties are not worth the money and are a losing proposition for the consumer...why else would companies be in this business? Just listen to all of those advertisements on the radio these days...

My last experience with these companies was awful. When we bought our last home, the previous owners bought a home warranty for the first year. Well, about 9-10 into the warranty, the dishwasher sprang a leak while we were out of town. The damages to the house weren't covered under the warranty so that was a homeowners claim (it leaked all the way downstairs). The warranty did cover the dishwasher repair however, it they wanted to take 3+ weeks to get one of their "authorized" technicians to come look at it. Only after much complaining and about 6-8 hours of time on the phone did they authorize me to get my own repair company. In the end, it took my own repair company about a day to come out, and then 10 more days to order and replace the $60 part that broke. I then had to file a claim with the warranty company, and it took them about six weeks to issue me the $250 reimbursement check.

For me, I'd rather keep my money and do with it what I want, rather than pour it into an insurance company I'd have to maybe hassle with them to get reimbursed...eventually.

I think this equation might change though in the context of extremely high repair costs for EVs. Insurance business is also a community business, where the pain of the individual is covered by the prowess of the collective. There can be a world in the EV cases where Insurance Cost + Insurance Company Margin < Repair Cost of EV for the individual, depending on how large the collective is.

I really wish Rivian would offer a factory extended warranty. It would help the resale market, which in turn helps the new sale market, if they would offer one at a reasonable price.

Counterpoint- I purchased the Toyota factory extended warranty for my RAV4 EV. Over the period of ownership Toyota spent at least $40,000 replacing batteries, traction, motors, wiring, harnesses and other items. It was the best $2000 I ever spent. I also have a Zero motorcycle. The battery has failed, the warranty has expired and they want $9k for a replacement. I basically have a 2 wheeled paperweight now. Im taking offers…..

I've made good use of various service agreements on vehicles, and some were never needed. Ironically the most useless one was on our BMW, never had a problem. I got $7k-9k in trans and AC work on a Ram, and a few small things on some others.

If you need an auto warranty, just start answering more of your spam calls, you should get a few within a few days.

It’s almost always a pure waste of money to get the extended warranty. As with anything else, there will be a few shining examples of where it paid off and some individual(s) escaped a massive expense that was financed by the other (suckers). …and that’s only if you find one of the very few “honest” warranty companies and fall into a covered issue category. It probably even cheaper to just lease or look to trade up as you get near original warranty expiration if you’re concerned and need peace of mind

depends on the cost and what is covered. The really big ticket items are under warranty for a long time like the battery and motors. That still leaves things like air suspension, HVAC, kinetic ride control, ECUs which can be pricey.

Depending on what is covered and the deductible it could be worth it for the piece of mind. Read through the exclusions very carefully though.

I haven't researched any of them recently but likely will if I do keep it past the factory new car warranty.

I question the value of an extended warranty thru a 3rd party when Rivian will not release any service data, or diagnostic software or even all parts. Hell we can’t even get glass fully installed thru 3rd parties.

Someone posted Fidelity earlier in this thread, and they're considered the gold standard amongst many circles. Steingold is a top reseller, great rates and bought it from them for my 911.

It comes down to your risk tolerance and peace of mind. If you got hit with a $5000 or $10000 repair bill tomorrow, would you be ok with it?

I've bought one before that paid for itself twice over within the first year. I've also had one where I never had to use it. YMMV
