Enjoy @Mygrain I found this on Facebook.

I hope you find it in the shop. This looks awesome and I would rock it with a dual motor R1 or R2 @ current pricing.

I'll make a prediction.

Rivian will continue to sell both the wood and vinyl interior trim options for a bit. After a period of time, they will say customers preferred the vinyl and stop producing the wood.

The wood is gorgeous but complex and expensive to manufacture. I'm thinking Rivian wants to move away from it but don't want to appear to be cheaping out on the interior. Could explain why they are the same cost as well. I'm already pretty bummed they removed it from the seatbacks.

IMO the wood is what makes the Rivian's interior standout and fit their branding. This vinyl type interior would be fine for R2.

I hope I'm wrong or get my Rivian before I'm right. ?

I hope they at least keep the wood as an option. It makes a really big difference to my eye and I would be willing to pay more for the wood for sure.

Maybe it has an element of leverage to the wood component supplier. Now they aren't only game in town, so maybe give Rivian some negotiating power too.

I was thinking the same thing but from a shareholder perspective.

I would love to see all new pricing and packages.

Make the explore model with black on black vinyl. Make the adventure model include free wood upgrade if you want but still $2000 extra for ocean coast interior. Stand alone I would love to see wood cost around $1000 - $1500.

Help add some more money back into Rivian's coffers for the R2 development fund.

The combination of that awesome and a dual motor R1 or R2 sounds like a winning combination. I agree that offering a black-on-black vinyl for the Explore model and a wood upgrade for the Adventure model would be great options. Actually Contributing to Rivian's development efforts through further purchases is a terrific way to help.

I’m Team Wood. The vinyl looks cheap IMHO.

I would choose wood as well, if cost was not a concern.

many folks are trying to stay under $80,000 to qualify for at least the $3750 tax credit and hopefully in the future the $7500 tax credit.

As a shareholder, I’m extremely happy to see the vinyl leather dash and hope that they will bring back the explore option at a lower price point so folks can upgrade to large pack and still get the tax credit with dual motor.

Some more people will be able to get their hands on Rivian‘s s00ner than the R2

the vinyl looks fine but the issue is the overall design aesthetic. theres just too much vinyl of the same look on the dashboard now. the door looks good because they didnt even use the vinyl, they used the cloth to break up the look. center console also looks fine because of the chrome and plastic.

the dashboard just doesn't look as nice. maybe if it was as slightly different color or pattern that would have helped. Black Mountain overall just has too much black of the same color and texture and now even more with the vinyl.

I hope you're wrong too because that might be the last straw for me. I'm not a fan of the vinyl.

Aesthetics are highly subjective but I agree with you. It would look nice if the wood-now-vinyl areas were differentiated in some way. Maybe a different/coarser texture or grain would’ve helped. Heck, they could’ve gone with split-the-difference gray halfway between Black Mountain and Ocean Coast so they only had to make a single* version for both interior colors.

In the past I’ve gone for aluminum or carbon fiber inlays on a dash. Fake wood inlays always looked contrived.

on the R1, I like the ash wood as it adds another subtle texture to the mix without over doing it. I really like it in contrast to the OC in my truck. I’d definitely order it again.

I don't remember where I read this, but supposedly Rivian (matching the company's mission) only sourced felled trees for the wood. Maybe that was getting too hard to obtain.

I suppose "vegan leather" may appeal to some people, but more often than not I've gotten questions about the wood interior (Forest Edge) and most people end up touching/feeling it. I think it brings a feeling of warmth to a very high tech interior.

...still wondering what if Lunar Rock/Original Ocean Coast was still an option.
