Rivian might survive if TACO Tuesday keeps gas prices high and drives people to EVs. There is always a surge in interest in the EV market when gas gets expensive.
That would be poetic stupidity, but I'll take it.
I dealt with broken motor mounts, multiple 12 volt battery failures, AC compressor failure - and REx (range extender engine - one of the first of its kind) issues galore.
I have owned 3 first generation vehicles and they all had gremlins that got worked out in subsequent model years. God...
I'm probably going to finally say goodbye to my i3s for the iX3 but I'm not touching the first generation with a 100 foot pole. My first generation i3s was a complete nightmare.
Never again.
I'll wait until the next model year production.
People generally dismissed BMW when it came out with the i3 EV in 2013. I think BMW is going to get the last laugh with the i3x. It looks extremely compelling, especially for soccer moms already driving an X3 ice equivalent...
Change or things reach a tipping point where Rivian collapses. I have always worried about service. It is the achilles heel of Rivian and I don't think they have done even close to enough to deal with it before scaling up volume production of R2 vehicles. The existing problems, if not...
I share everyone's alarm and frustration at this development. I'm especially impressed with @Donald Stanfield's response because, as he stated, he represents one of the most loyal wings of the Rivian customer base. Pissing him off is not a good sign for Rivian.
The reality is that this...
Yeah! How dumb is it to expect grab handles in an adventure vehicle that is advertised doing this:
Everybody knows that "air-grab handles" are just as effective and look a lot cooler when you are getting knocked around the cabin.

Range is completely overrated. 400 miles of range means a large, heavy battery pack that reduces the overall efficiency of the vehicle. Less range - smaller and higher efficiency battery and very fast charging is a better bet for most.
It annoys me that Rivian didn't opt for 800v...
To everyone buying a Launch R2 - thank you for doing God's work. Those of us waiting for R3/R3x thank you in advance because we know R3 doesn't happen without R2 having a successful launch and run.
Planned EV models are getting dropped left and right across other OEMs because of the change in...
The drop in price had nothing to do with market dynamics and more to do with market manipulation which has been the MO of this administration. I expect extreme volatility in the coming months as the true impacts of the conflict unfold.
I have an R2 reservation but really waiting for R3. I'll give the iX3 a few production years to work out the gremlins and then it is likely going into the stable.
ICE vehicles are so inefficient it should be criminal. People don't appreciate that ICE vehicles are also impacted by cold weather, but they are so inefficient to start with, you don't see the hit as much as you would on an extremely efficient electric vehicle.
That inefficiency comes at a...
Pay the man! IX3 is going to be a huge hit. It already is in Europe. I think people are likely to shop both but the buyer bases are slightly different. The iX3 is more refined but less capable. It will be interesting to watch.
You are basing a lot of your annoyance with how much Rivian has continued to develop iterations past Gen 1. When you were in your shiny Gen 1 and "king of the hill" so to speak, I am guessing you didn't feel this way.
Rivian needed to continue to refine and improve their vehicles in order to...
