I’ve been on the fence. I have it narrowed down between the R1S and the 2022 Volvo XC90 Recharge. I’m not in a hurry...late 2021 or into 2022 is good.

I'm wondering, for those just placing deposits now on the R1S, when they can expect delivery? Perhaps mid to late 2022?
I still think it depends on the options chosen with higher priced models coming out a bit quicker. Mid 2021 optimistically?

The original timeline was end of 2020 for R1T and R1S to start 3 months later. Now things have been pushed back due to the COVID-19, so I am factoring in 2 to 3 months of delay.

I also read that the 180Kw and 135Kw will be available at launch, so if you are getting either one I would expect July 2021. If you are going with the smaller battery, I would say end of 2021.

That is all based on what I read, I do not believe Rivian have released an official timeline for the post COVID-19 dates.

As for the options, I honestly believe that Rivian will handle this better than Tesla. They will have more efficient assembly lines, and probably less bells and whistles and more actual useful things. I am basing my opinion on the interviews I saw from RJ and his staff, they are extremely well known, highly educated, and have prioritized utility over flashiness which usually translates to efficiency,

I would hope sooner than June of 2021 since the original plan was to deliver R1T's late 2020. I do understand the Rivian plant was shut down between 60 to 90 days, but it should not push the production out six months.

My understanding was that the original goal was for the first R1Ts to go out in like December, with the majority being delivered in Q1 of 2020. The R1S was then supposed to follow in like March/April. So with the COVID delay, I’m sorta just adding 2 months to the delivery times.

For the R1T, depending on options and battery pack size, the first ones will roll off the line the end of the first quarter/beginning of second quarter 2021. For R1Ss, the end of the second quarter/beginning of the third quarter 2021. So, counting from July 1, 2020, 3 quarters of waiting for R1Ts and 4 quarters for R1Ss. Does it sound shorter to say 3 quarters or 9 months? Less than a year sounds pretty good after already waiting 19 months.

Well, all good logic.

My thinking is that since Lincoln pulled out of their order and The Amazon order is still on their original schedule, my guess is there is room for Rivian to accelerate the R1S to be closer to the R1T production schedule.

This is all speculation.

Rivian’s competition is catching up and i would like to see both the Rivians on the streets first..

Well, since you all seem to be better at predicting than I, here’s my riddle!

I preordered an R1S on December 13th, 2018. When do I get my car aha.

I was only a few days behind you, and I hope we will get our R1Ss around this time next year.

The pre-orders will be full filled sequentially, however the options might switch few things around. If what we read is still correct, Larger battery packs first, then even if you are up next in line you will be bumped for a while until they start the small battery pack configuration production.
