I was giving them a pass on the cameras, but not for 90k+
This. I think many preorder holders would have been very lenient on some early issues since it was generally agreed that we were getting a great value. Now I feel like we are no longer getting an early adopter price and Rivian just eroded the goodwill of their most loyal fanbase. vinyl seats in $90K luxury SUV...c'mon.

Keeping my R1T-L.E. order for now. Trimmed most all the "goodies" to limit the amount above the new $85K base price that I must pay. But, kid you not, this topic actually bothers me so much that I woke up in middle of night and immediately felt the heartbreak of getting less truck/accessories and still pay $8.8K more than my decked package was.

I have first-day deposits on both the Lightning and Silverado-EV and will simply take the first truck that comes my way. Must say that seeing close to half the forum members are choosing to cancel has to portend the prior "delivery windows" are either much more likely now or perhaps even trend to the left for a shocking change.

I make decent money, but spending $100K on a vehicle, especially when I will still need an ICE vehicle for other reasons (towing, driving on frozen lakes, etc....) is hard to stomach. Will keep reservation for now, but will likely cancel very soon while I can still get a deposit back. Was a big supporter of what Rivian has done - new company, great looking vehicles with fantastic stats, but the market is blowing up and competition is going to eat them alive unless they can produce something quick and for an affordable price. I had originally reserved an R1T with extended range, but when they dropped that changed to an R1S 5 seat so I had plenty of covered cargo space for my dog and hunting supplies. They've delayed or drop support on my desires twice now, so not sure how long I can stay loyal.

I will have to admit that I am disappointed. I have been on this ride since November of 2018, and had hoped that the price would hold at least until all of the pre-production reservations had been delivered.

That would have been the right thing to do. A $15,000 jump is way out of line. I can understand a couple of thousand due to the cost of materials that have increased, but it sounds like to me they way must screwed up big time in pricing these vehicles. They are creating a lot of ill will for those that have been waiting for years..

The price of EV's will go way down over time. Rivian is new at this and someday when they get their manufacturing down and improve the technology we will see the prices come way down. So maybe in some way its good. We can wait and see what happens in the EV market.

Assuming the poll is accurate, I do wonder if the cancellation rate of forum members is actually higher than reservation holders as a whole. This group represents those most excited about the car but it also means we are the most invested - in many cases for years - so this may hurt this group a lot more than others.

I also agree that waiting for 2024 for a dual-motor and expecting the price not to go up again is probably a ticket for big anger and disappointment.

I am pretty disappointed. Price on my configurator (R1T) went from $86,000+ to $102,000+. I am especially annoyed by the increases in paint and interior choices - seems to me that is just being greedy. My delivery date is scheduled for first half of 2023. I don't want to wait till 2024 or 2025. I will keep the reservation for now and see what happens. I don't see me spending $102k for a vehicle though. In the meantime I will consider other options. I have early CT and Silverado EV reservations so they are possibilities. I have been waiting for an EV truck for over 4 years and am getting frustrated with the wait. Also considering buying a model Y now and just keeping my '05 Silverado for pulling the boat and going to hardware store. Could swap out model Y (or my wife's Suburu) if and when EV trucks finally get to market.

My preorder went up $16k after believing and promoting this company for years. I am lucky enough that I could likely afford the price increase. But I can’t afford the fundamental destruction of my trust as a customer with an unknown brand.

If Rivian can do this — they can do anything. What will stop them from having horrible repair service? What will stop them from locking out new features behind paywalls? What will stop them from pivoting to only commercial vans in a few years?

The Rivian brand is dead. I’m out.
Very well said. Your post accurately expresses my feelings about this whole Rivian mess. I am a very early supporter having placed my order on November 28th, 2018. I, too, placed my trust in a new company. Up until yesterday, I felt good about it. Rivian has now soured me about the whole process. Even though I can afford the new price, I just don't know if I want to do it anymore. They have lost my trust.

My vehicle went from $78,900 to $94,900. They are offering cheaper "options" in the duel motor pack instead of the quad, but then you have to wait another two years minimum to receive it.

They also increased the price of my paint color and all of the options I had (spare wheel, roof rack, etc.). They can cry inflation, but it is really just company greed. Over the past year, the inflation rate was 7%. The vehicle price increase was 20.5%.
I'm as irritated as everyone else. But we have to remember that since Rivian announced the price, the averaged inflation rate for the ~ 2 year period was somewhere around 10%-12%. But that's Average. Labor and many raw materials have gone up A LOT more than that. So as much as I don't want to admit it, 20% may be what Rivian has experienced.

I'm most pissed at HOW they handled this announcement.

Container shipping rates - up 5x - These costs get passed along to Rivian on anything they buy or a supplier manufactures with overseas raw materials.

These poll numbers are wild. Even if only 1 out of 4 of the undecideds ends up cancelling that puts them at an over 52% cancellation rate.

I can't imagine they expected cancellation numbers this high or they would have offered like a free hemp tote bag or something for staying loyal.

And I would expect that the cancellation rate outside of this forum is higher. We represent the (formerly?) loyal pack.
