We can safely assume that the R2 towing capacity will be something less than the CyberTruck’s nearly infinite towing capacity. ?

I too eagerly await this info. I will quite disappointed if it is less than 5K. I suspect they may be waiting to see what the scout comes out with this summer as that is probably going t be their main competition. They may want to wait so they make sure it is competitive.

Onebrain Podcast did an interview with RJ, they asked about R2 towing around the 9:20 mark.

RJ said it has not been finalized yet, it will not be as high as R1 but should be best in class and they will announce it once they have it dialed in.

I was very glad to hear RJ mention that towing is coming when interviewed by the One Brain YouTube Channel. We do not care about towing, but do want the use our existing (and very expensive) QuikRstuff bike rack, which is one of a very few that actually facilitates heavy e-bikes. The Rivian bike rack shown on their website for the R2/3/3X would work for a 30 lb gravel bike, but would not work for a 50 to 90 lb e-bike.

I think the Scout is going to be more like the R1 without the 3rd row. Its looking closer to full size to me & more off road capable.

I need this to tow 6200 lb Pebble Flow, which I expect to get around same time as the R2. :) I'm guessing the tri-motor version will be necessary.

Payload is really where it may be limited, that is an important factor of towing.

Count me among those hoping for 5k+ towing. I currently tow near the 3,500 lb. capacity of my hybrid Highlander and am looking at the R2 as a possible replacement vehicle in the future. The Highlander does it comfortably, but what if I ever want to get a slightly bigger boat :)

Well, now we need it to tow 6800 lbs. ? Production intent Pebble Flow added some weight.

We can only hope. I have my doubts though as the R1S can only tow 7700 for some reason. and the R2 will be like 20-25% smaller. But it is not out of the realm of possibilities as RJ did say its tow capacity would be best in class, and the Jeep grand Cherokee is a similar sized SUV and can tow 6200.

A BMW X5 can also tow 7200 lbs. Seems to be a similar size (maybe?) so maybe there's hope. It would be a pleasant surprise.

Also keep in mind that tow capacity includes all payload including passengers in your vehicle. So if the trailer weighs the same as your vehicles max tow capacity you could not safely tow it due to the weight of you your passengers and cargo.

There’s no way an R2 is going to tow a fully loaded Pebble Flow. Weights they have given are dry. Add water, gear, food, and passenger payload in the car, and there’s no way. The flow will need an R1 no question.
