R2 compact spare tire purchase

Dumb question, but is everyone going to pay the $875 to get the compact spare Tire? It does not have run flat tires on the 21 inch wheels

Yeah, that tiny/narrow high pressure space saver is gonna dig in to the sand faster than a sand flea! If you got a flat on our sand, just drive out on it, then put on that bicycle tire once you hit pavement

I had an unrepairable flat in my old Tesla Y in the middle of nowhere in Texas on a Sunday, and ended up with the bill for a long tow to a town with a tire store, plus a night in a hotel, all the while hoping the small town store could find a match. They could only get a slightly different tire, which necessitated replacing the other side when I got back home. Ended up keeping the good tire and buying an aftermarket wheel to keep as a full-size spare that took up lots of cargo space on road trips.

$775 seems expensive for a donut, but a lot cheaper than that one experience.

If Modern Spare or somebody else came out with a non-OEM option that fits the space, I might opt for that, so I will see what is available when my Sept-October order window gets here.

But one way or another, I will pay for peace of mind.

As someone who has had a blowout away from city convenience and has used a spare and didn’t have to wait 3 hours for AAA or whatever roadside service on the side of a highway, I am purchasing this.

I am totally going to get the spare; I'm waiting for the Premium trim, and the spare kit for the 20" is a little less

Modern Spare is currently selling a spare for our Ioniq5 for $500, but the shipping to my locale raises the price to nearly $700. I was thinking that eventually they'd have an R2 spare, but oddly they don't seem to have a product for even R1 yet. In any case it looks like even if they did sell an R2 spare it wouldn't be much of a bargain for me over Rivian's own spare pricing, so I'll just be buying Rivian's.
