The figures trace back to a 2022 AutoInsuranceEZ study that combined US fire-incident data from the National Transportation Safety Board with sales data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
The catch is the "per 100,000 sold" denominator, and it's a big one. Fires overwhelmingly happen...
It's not an age thing, it's variety of problems:
For my mother, her parking is on her property but entirely uncovered and about 50 feet from her house, more from the electrical panel. There is no way she would see building a parking structure and/or having electrical laid underground to her...
I don't think the fear of vehicle fires is widely thought to be a significant factor in the take rate of EVs in the USA today...
There are more EV options than ever before here in the US, in many vehicle classes and price segments. And yet...
Don't get me wrong, I love EVs and own/have owned...
Hmm, to be clear, my comment was saying the target of the R2 was to be a Model Y competitor with approximately the off-road capability of a Subaru ICEV.
Re: on-road (ie zero-slippage) AWD behavior, nearly all EV systems, even if they're PM on both axles with no mechanical disconnects, require...
Same with Audi Quattro these days. A vast majority of AWD (in ICE form) and multi-motor (in EV form) are 2WD until slippage is detected.
Thatās not really here nor there though, given PT4WD vehicles are still the overall most off-road capable though, and theyāre literally 2WD-only on dry roadsā¦
Great data, and really solidifies why Rivian is nowhere near the reliability/dependability benchmark it needs to be at.
That being said, the post reads a little bit clanker to me.
Looks nice-ish other than the weirdly shaped black section in the lower fascia, same as the ix3 sport trims.
Also, loss of the tailgate is super disappointing. Itās like making a 4Runner without the roll-down rear window. Why get rid of your special sauce.
All good points.
Iām assuming you werenāt following the 2 years of steady info coming out about the R2 after placing your reservation though, because this was all known⦠a mass-market Model Y competitor with more of a Subaru-level of off road ability is exactly what the R2 was always supposed...
The front seats absolutely recline, it sounds like the rears arenāt adjustable at all (not talking about headrests)
But, this isnāt unique to R2. R1 has quite a storied past of QC issues.
Exactly. Buy whatever 20s your trim offers, and swap to a tire you prefer, depending on what youāre targeting, either right away or at the end of the factory tire lifespan. Easy imo!
Thereās also the fact that some estimates have EV sales as a percentage of all new auto sales in the US peaking in 2025, with hybrids the only growing segment in 2026 and beyond, replacing ICE.
