Once the standard LFP battery is released you will be able to configure the dual motor standard battery in both the S and T under 80k and get 3750 tax credit.

Since it is LFP and can charge to 100% the daily range is comparable to the large pack around 75%.
Leasing should get 7500 credit. That should bring it back to an affordable price bracket.

I live 50 miles from a service center, have an R1T already, and it looks like Rivian is still targeting Colorado and California. There is still no estimate yet after I configured, so who knows how long it'll be before they actually match me to a vin.
true but the fact is you were already invited to configure.

R1S Sept 22 order, configuration in October, November delivery estimate was Dec23-Jan24, now DE reverted back to processing estimate. My configuration is dual motor, and everything in the shop is quad, so go figure.

I think you will see R1S leasing when backlog is reduced like the R1T. I was surprised they did not start them at the same time but maybe they fill like the need readily available stock for the lease program.

Yes. Supply had increased as production ramped up and yes, demand has waned and will continue to. There’s no way I’d pay the market price for my R1S. I love my S, but had pre price hike pricing.

There is a market for these at current prices, I actually expected it to be higher than they are currently when I saw the specs a put my deposit down in 2020. I was still going to buy at the higher price had they not decided to honor the 2021 prices they announced.

It is not a huge market, the R2 will be the mass market vehicle but the R1 will still sell.

Actually considering a dual motor R1S standard pack to replace our Tesla, it can be had for under 80k and get a 3750 tax break.

I am not eligible for the tax credit, so that doesn’t help. I agree, there’s certainly a market at dual motor pricing - which is still more than I paid for my quad. But that’s why I get so hung up on it.

I hit Reserve on an R1S in August 23. I got an email on Dec 1 saying I could configure (4 month wait). I went through the steps to configure and then immediately was invited to the shop. Found what I wanted and picked it up 6 days later (Thursday the 7th) at the Austin SC. I didn’t count the vehicles in the shop but there are/were a LOT, all saying delivery in 1 - 2 weeks. Could be area specific. I assume people are backing out of their orders and sales are slowing because of interest rates and such.

Same, without the pre-price hike and $7500 PBA, I'd probably have passed on it and waited a few years for the battery tech/charging and pricing to improve. I feel like I bought the first iPhone and it's going to be obsolete in the 6+ years I plan to keep it. The crappy cameras alone make it feel like it's alredy obsolete. Too bad they didn't offer a R1S lease right up front because I definitely would've jumped on that for 36 months.

The other thing slowing demand is Rivian has announced an overhaul/update for mid 2024. If you’re paying $90-$100k, you probably don’t want to do that knowing there will be a better product in six months.

Tesla generally didn’t preannounce the updates. So you had angry customers, but pretty consistent demand.

And I am sure lot of people are waiting to lease. Everyone can see that it's coming, as they already started leasing T. Leasing is also a lower risk method for people to try a new product from new auto maker.
