Saw one yesterday in Brooklyn and it's ugly but I'm jelly with their soundsystem, cameras, suspension and rear steer which blows away what Rivian currently offers.

QM is a no brainer especially for a lease since it's hundreds less per month vs DM. With financing/owning I would still get QM personally but would wait until the refresh comes. I'll switch the 20 AT's out for AS and get roughly the range of the 21's once they get loud.

Unless you really need a R1S right now I'd wait until the refresh if I were buying it now vs. leasing. It's a shame they didn't let us lease them 6+ months ago because it would've been a nobrainer for me.

Suspension, audio, rear wheel steer, camera quality and upgraded glass seem much better than what Rivian currently offers. My suspension is noisy and slow, audio system is awful and front glass is apparently made of sugar. Cameras on the Rivian are just unacceptable for a now $100k vehicle.

We're beta testers with the first R1 releases that were based on older hardware due to the pandemic pushing everything back. The refreshed R1 will probably be much better but I don't see Rivian allowing hardware upgrades at all for original buyers. I wish I could've leased it knowing the battery...
