I still have a box of bamboo flooring from when I built hte h

Regarding the. plastic “stops” at the end of the bed that you removed to slide your panels in/out - did you dremel them out, or is there a way to remove just that end cap piece?
I didn't remove them. My truck came like that with no tonneau selected.

Love the look!

If I could get a tonneau cover to match the wood trim on my Forest Edge interior, that would be perfection!

Thanks - that’s good info. I will need to avoid cutting mine out (warranty? no clue what they’ll say if I do it), but your design has inspired me. I’ll get to work on it this week and take pics. Thank you!

It's very light. You can easily hold each panel with one hand. I'm using 3/4" select pine from Home Depot. I think cedar would have been a better choice, but I used up all of mine on other projects. Here are some detailed pictures. Hope that helps explain things. The last panel has an aluminum L panel as a handle to pull it out.

Thanks Kozak79. That is definitely something I'm going to be looking at when I get my R1t. You'll be a hit at any Rivian meetup you attend!

I made a PVC cover before and it was functional, but I didn't like the look. I just finished my new cover. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love it :)

Now this is the kind of creativity and ingenuity that makes this community such a great place to be!

I hope you tweet these photos at RJ on Twitter and tell him you have the tonneau redesign covered!

Well done @kozak79!

Just wondering how long that took you from start to finish because I know a car company full of really smart engineers with a bunch of tools and materials that still haven't come up with something like this for MONTHS!!

Rivian - look and learn from my friend here.

Nice job Bud!
I agree that it's a great job, but you can't compare it to an OE mass deploying a tonneau cover that needs to meet regulations and requirements with little to no variance in the raw material or finished product. I'd be interested to hear how weather-tight this wooden design is because I want one :p

I applaud the ingenuity! It’s great in that aspect; but I can’t believe it’s come to this on an $80k+ truck. To me it looks completely out of place… Again it’s not a knock on you; but rather Rivian for not having an actual proper solution that matches the trucks appearance as a whole. I’m starting to wonder if a manual tonneau will ever come; and certainly not expecting to see an actual solution that is powered… Guess the glass is empty for me and not even at the half way mark.
Again, wonderful work on your truck! I’m just sad we have to have threads like this to begin with!

That looks better than the OE solution.
Rivian should license it :like: 🤑

I actually think your cover has quite a unique look, however normal finishes will not likely stand up to the weather.
After years and years of refinishing my mahogany swim platform with laquer, I now use surfboard Resin. If you don't mind a gloss finish. It stands up to the weather, sun, salt water and is extremely durable. Durable enough to last 5 years + on the boat.
Process would be to prep well, then 2 coats, and polish it well followed by a quality marine wax (like Meguiars) I don't wax the swim platform, as I don't want it to be slippery, so unwaxed it can get water spots.
You could probably buff it with scuffing pad to get a satin finish.

Looks sick, would have gone with an ebony stain myself but the aluminum accents/locking rails are legit. I'd be super curious to see what this would look like with Teak or teak and holly strips. Rolls Royce vibe
