There’s a lot of discussion regarding taking up two parking spots in order to charge a Rivian at Tesla stations. I’m curious: do they make a level 3 extension cord? I’ve done a search but all of them seem to be level 2. Anyone have one? Where did you get it?

Hmm.. I’m starting to wonder if I’m just a jerk, because I don’t really have any interest in purchasing an extension cable just because superchargers were not made to accommodate vehicles with different charging port locations.

To be clear, there is little to no problem if a bunch of rivians pulled up to a supercharger. They wouldn’t each ‘take up 2 spots’. They’d all fit nicely next to each other making use of all spots (except for maybe the far right one if it was against a curb or something).

So it’s not inherently a Rivian or Ford issue. It’s an issue of having a mix of vehicle charge port locations. So, with that in mind, I could argue that Teslas should buy an extension cable and use the dispenser on the left, like Rivians do. (Yes, I know that’s impractical, just sayin’)

I'd buy a 20 foot extension cable to be able to hit an ICE'd supercharger, but I wouldn't buy a short one just because Tesla can't put long enough cables for my EV to be able to use any available supercharger.

How many gas stations have you been to where you pull up to the pump at the front or rear of the vehicle?….why not just make all EV chargers pull through, the same as gas pumps, and all these issues go away?

I think we eventually get to having some that are pull thru like truck stops but it takes up more space than just having parking spots. And you will need more chargers vs. gas pumps for road trips since it takes longer to charge.

While I agree, but the way charging sites are now (leased portion of existing mall lots rather than dedicated parcels like gas stations), builders and networks have to respect and work with what exists there. It isn't always possible to make them all pull throughs. Plus, current charging times are several times longer than what it takes to fill a fuel tank. It just makes more sense to repurpose parking lots. Longer cables at chargers would solve majority of the compatibility issues.

Honestly, if someone really wants this, I'd only purchase the approved Tesla version.
Liability-wise, safer, yes. Given A2Z built their adapter to high specification, I don't doubt their ability to produce a safe extension. The near $300 pre-tax price on the other hand... Given inconsistent Supercharger layouts, and if the location is busy enough where an extension is the difference between availability and waiting (just to double park), it may be worth it.
