Well, my truck just started this creak as it was being loaded on the flatbed for the trip to the SC to 'unbrick' all my failed sensor modules from the 39.1 update... added this to the list of items to fix - appointment summary now says [among other things] 'remove and replace front halfshafts' will see if they actually replaced or just retightened/regreased...

Would be really super helpful if Rivian Corporate made some sort of official acknowledgement/announcement regarding this extremely common issue. To just stay silent is quite irresponsible IMO.

Add me to the list - same creaking sound started today - 3K miles in. Would be nice to be able to fix it myself - the SC wait times are brutal
In my case all they did was lube the splines going into the wheel hub. If you're handy and comfortable with close enough on the torque this is a pretty easy task. When mine starts to creak again I will be fixing it myself next time.

Assuming this sound is metal on metal, this can’t be good. Also, I don’t understand why these sounds would be an EV exclusive issue as some comments have indicated?

Lube can do a fantastic job masking a long term problem that is developing.

Agreed, but at least it keeps it quiet until Rivian acknowledges and addresses their issue. ;)

It's not exclusive to EV's but regen puts a lot more instant reverse rotational force on the spline coupling vs. a standard automatic transmission just using engine braking. What you're hearing is the slop (lash) between the spline coupling being slapped against the opposite machined face when a sudden reverse of rotation force is applied.

I'd like to hear if people have had this issue resolved. I've gone into the service center at least four times for this and am going in a for a fifth next week.

1st service - replace bolts
2nd service - add spacer washers
3rd service - replace half shafts, put in squash plate
4th service - replace entire front drive unit

After all that it still creaks and cracks loudly. Has anyone ever had it repaired in a way that lasts?

I have sort of given up hope....which is too bad....as everything else about the vehicle is crazy good.

I’m looking forward to seeing if the dual motor versions have the same problem. As great as the vehicle is, the clicks and clunks drive me crazy. I’d rather have a rattle in the truck somewhere than drivetrain noises.

Had mine fixed 6000 miles ago and still goin. If you have it in high regen it will make one creak but none in standard.

Been through once in service for tiks toks creaking suspension. A few things noted on work order. Squeaked and made noises right out of the service center on pickup. A few other things not fixed, so more tickets and a few more months of waiting for another service.

I haven’t really been up close to any other Rivian than a loaner I got once, but does everyone’s creak? The service advisor keeps trying to repair it and expects it to go away. If this creak is on every vehicle why would they try and fix it?

I'm a few hundred miles from the odometer being 18,000 miles so I might want to consider going nuclear and bringing up the lemon law option to the service center when I'm there next week

I'd prefer not to do this, but I am getting pretty annoyed taking in the truck for constant repairs. I knew what I signed up for when buying an EV from a new company, but doesn't mean I shouldn't hold Rivian to these consumer protection laws.

What is everyone's opinion on this?

As I await my R1S configuration invite I'm keenly interested in this, so thanks for the updates. I'm hoping the dual motor architecture will have a redesign that is not susceptible to this problem.

This is the possible deal breaker which has me eagerly awaiting the Volvo EX90 launch.
