Now that deliveries have started, can we get a 70mph range test?

Preferably in Conserve mode on cruise control. Just to get a good idea of the highway range.

No need to empty the battery, just a 100 miles round trip would be good enough.

Thanks.

I realized this weekend renting a tesla and taking it from Vancouver to Manning Park that there are too many factors to do this without someone losing their mind about the results. Driving on a flat highway at 120km/h it was fine, but with the temp being 5 degrees C (42ish F) going up hill, I was consuming 5-10km of range for every km driven going up a 10%ish grade. If it were summer it likely would have performed better.

Tom Moloughney has a Q4 delivery window from what I remember. If someone wants to be so kind as to lend him a truck I'm sure he'd be happy to do a 70mph range test. Real time edit, as I type this I actually remember he or Kyle mentioning Rivian was going to lend them a truck for a range and charge test. They haven't mentioned it in a while but hopefully its still in the works.

Kyle should have one on loan in the next week or two, so we'll get it soon.

He also has a buddy with a much earlier window, so he should have access to one Aprilish I think.

Heads up! If you let Tom test your truck, make him PROMISE to not let Kyle get within 50ft of it.

Don’t let Kyle drive your new truck!!! ?
I'd totally let him or Tom drive mine. Kyle's not going to treat someone's personal vehicle poorly.

They did. It got 317. But their test isn't particularly consistent, and not for the highway speeds people are curious about.

Here is Edmunds video review. The range test is 18 minutes into the video:

Agree, but it (Edmunds test) is still a good data point and more relevant to the EPA rating than Tom’s and Kyle’s. To be clear, I’m looking forward to Tom’s and Kyle’s as another data point.

Of course there are different factors that effect range - that doesn't mean a test wouldn't be useful.

We're all (ok, mostly) smart adults and can take the conditions of a given test into consideration when evaluating results.

So, if someone were to do a full range test in cold weather in the mountains, I could at least conclude that I would get at least that number here in SoCal.

We don't need to do every test in a lab environment.
