I just confirmed my R1S order from the Shop...

And my heart is about to jump out of my chest. Not from excitement, but from being scared. The anxiety is real!

I have never purchased a new car before, and in fact, I never intended to ever buy a new car.

I have never paid more than 10k for a car.. This is quite a bit more than that!

I am a car guy/wrench head. I love turning wrenches. My body.. Not so much any more. 1 blown disc, and 4 semi-blown discs will do that... And having 2 kinds under the age of 5!

Any words of wisdom out there?

As configured is in my signature.
I feel you @TollKeeper I'm in the process of completing paperwork with a March 17th pick up date here in So Cal... I've always been frugal so spending this on a car has been a ride. Thankfully, I have a lot of confidence in the longevity of the R1S - felt like it was time in my career and life to do some self care and get a car that I can explore trails with the dogs up in the Sierras and not worry about clearance....I'm grateful financially to have a secure job and to be able to pay in cash so I'm not taking on any debt. At some point its ok to get something you enjoy and will use for your little ones and keep them safe. I wish you the best - I ordered a 2025 R1S Ascend Trim.

Wishing you and your family all the best and enjoy the road!

Taking Rivian in tomorrow for a recall (hub bolts), dash rattle, seal around rear hatch coming off, and an alignment.

Been complaining about the alignment since I bought it, but they were never willing to do anything. Now that I am over 1 on ownership, now they are willing to actually put it on a alignment machine, but this time they get to charge me... $260.00 for an alignment.

They gave me, as a loaner, a 23 R1S Adventure in ElCap with the 20" Dark wheels and 14k miles, it also has a new set of Scorpion A/T tires.

Holy hell are these tires LOUD! Range is awful, I am averaging 0.8 kWh less than my 24 R1S Launch with the 22" Brights.

They called me on Friday saying they had ordered the wrong parts...LOL... and that they would have my R1S at least until Monday. Looks like I will be keeping the loaner until tomorrow at this point.

Took the Loaner out to Red Feathers lake on Saturday. It drove well enough, but the constant droning of the tires was near maddening. The poor efficiency of the truck meant I had to add 15% at a Tesla charger to get home. Would have been able to do a round trip without that in mine.

Couple problems with the loaner.. ADAS is completely INOP. The estimated charge remaining for the planned trip doesnt work. The bluetooth playback was choppy.

Its nice driving around in something that the interior doesnt rattle. But the road noise, and a harmonic distortion at 40mph from that road noise... Ya, I am looking forward to getting mine back.

Still in my loaner... On my way to work this morning, on a mapped interstate, the ADAS Icon popped up on my speedo. I hit the stalk to start it, and promptly got a warning that the interstate isnt mapped.

I know it is, as I drive it daily in my R1S, and use ADAS daily.

Another day in my loaner... Another issue..

Went to wash my front windshield. Pressed and held the button, but no fluid.. Ok its out of fluid..

Then I looked in the rear view mirror, and it was spraying at the rear window.

So I pressed the rear washer, and the fronts sprayed, and the rear wiped.

Sometimes you just cant make this stuff up!

Got the truck back on Thursday.

They claimed it took multiple tries to get the alignment squared away, and that it was "way off". Although they could not find any proof of external influence, so they covered it under warranty. There was no external influence except for daily driving, and the alignment has been off since the day I got it, and I have complained about it since the day I got it.

Alignment is still off. Pulls to the left, still.

They replaced the upper dash pad, AGAIN, to try to get rid of the rattle.. It still rattles.

I wonder if I should try again...??

Sunday, installed my running boards that I got from Hannshow... The ones I bought May 2024! They installed with no issue. The wife and kids immediately loved them. Only took about 1 hour to do the complete install.

The TP55 is absolutely required to do the install. I am glad I listened to all the other people who said the T55 would not work! Although I will never use the TP55 again, it was only a $6 dollar tool to purchase thru Amazon, and it was impact rated.

Will post pics sometime over the weekend.

"Bolt" is exactly where I want her to be, as far as mods, and whatever else, except window tint. Still need to get that done.

Now that I am into ownership for just at 14 months. Have gotten to experience each form of worldly season there is, from -15* to 107*. Gotten to experience how it works for my kids, picking them up from school, hospital, soccer practice, etc. Taken a small trip, and the range anxiety that comes with that. Daily driving it for work, Christmas shopping, and the typical day to day life of an average American.

All in, I have racked up 13500 miles as of this moment, averaging 2.12 kWh.

The end of the day question of whether I would buy a Rivian again. Its a simple "No". I love the power of the truck, it puts a smile on my face every time I get near that throttle pedal. But... thats where the positives end. Sorry Rivian loyalist, this truck is a technological marvel, that is lacking in so many areas.. Comfort is lacking, ease of repairs is bad, and so many more things.

For the money, I think I would have been better off with a Dodge Durango R/T, and it would have come with the bucket seats in the middle, and I would have had a local dealer for repairs. I would love to get a Silverado/Sierra EV, but they are to big for my garage! But at least I would have local dealer support. A MY may have even been a better option. I know for sure the interior was more comfortable for me.

Noticed a new, or maybe ongoing, issue?

I would have never noticed this, since I never sit in the back seats.

My son asked me what time was it, I looked at the dash, and said it was 654pm, and he said, dad, no its not, its 645pm, quit fooling. I looked at my wife with a WTF look.

She repeated what I had just said to my son.

My son then said "Why are you guys lying to me", he points to the center console rear display..

Sure enough, it was 9 minutes slower than the front main display.

We watched both of the displays the rest of the evening, and the rear display never matched the front display, and the time difference was always changing. Sometimes it was as little as 4 minutes off, other times it was as much as 11 minutes off.

What gives?
