Just let me play music via a USB-connected device.

It has to be coming. If you pull your drive out of the vehicle once formatted it creates folders for Music, Photos, and Videos.

I just want it to store playlists offline via the SSD I've got attached. I'm in remote areas often and would rather play things natively, than via Bluetooth.

I know there has been a bunch of discussion about this already but I don't understand why the ding when car in front moves and the smart turn signal features aren't a part of Gen1 vehicles. I get that there are hardware limitations for the full autonomous features and stuff but the Gen1 R1's already know that the car in front has moved because it responds accordingly when you have adaptive cruise on. They also know when your lane change is complete because they respond by re-engaging the driver assist function. Not sure what hardware limitations exist when the vehicles already respond with a more intensive function with the same inputs...

I mentioned that upstream as well for the ding. It should be easy to implement and I use it far more on my Teslas that I thought I would when they rolled it out.

Am I the only one that sets adaptive cruise to like 10mph over the speed limit in stop and go traffic or the city so that I don't have to keep stopping and going?

I have started doing this almost every time I drive. I only switched to EVs with my R1 this year and honestly can't believe how much this one feature along with one pedal driving has reduced my road rage and driving stress. When I get stuck in traffic I no longer worry about why the idiot person three cars ahead is doing ten under the speed limit, or whatever. I no longer even consider tail gaiting or anything aggro like that. I just engage adaptive cruise and chill. I let the truck deal with traffic and take over again when nothing's in my way. I love it.

I may have missed it discussed already, but am I the only one who noticed that they have apparently fixed the bug with the rear screen not staying locked on Gen2 vehicles, but no mention about this being fixed for Gen1? Did they just forget to include that in the Gen1 notes?

As a Gen 1 owner, I realize my glory days for major monthly upgrades are pretty much over.

as a Gen1 owner who got my truck weeks before the factory shutdown to retool for Gen2, I never had any glory days and have been pretty much left in the dust for "updates" for the entirety of owning this truck (except for maybe getting apple music and casting?). I still like the truck. Just don't like seeing these updates where nearly everything in every update is for gen2 only.

Oh well. That won't bother me too much.

But I do want two things:

1) this truck to last a long time. I didn't lease it. I bought it and would like to drive it for several years without breakdowns, malfunctions, or significant battery degradation, and
2) a V2H solution. I will pay good money to install a switch and bidirectional charging device for most of the circuits in my home to be powered by my truck for a few days. We lose power too often for too long where I live and I was really jealous of the Lightning owners during the last hurricane who had V2H charging all set up. Rivian teased something about this almost a year ago (June 2024) and it's been pretty much dead silence since then.

Yeah, its a game changer! I honestly use it more than on highway driving. Just have to pay attention because I once or twice may have almost flew through a red light when the car in front of me turned away lol

Because they don't want to put in the money or effort to maintain feature parity with Gen 2. Gen 1 development is mostly dead.

Funny you would mention this. I had a power failure at my house this morning. In preparation for such an event, I had an extension cord setup from my R1T into my house. My main concerns are the furnace, the fridge, and my coffee maker. Works like a charm. The truck could probably run the home essentials for days. That’s a darn big battery. Having said that, a true V2H setup would be awesome!

What are they using for driver attention detection?

The Rivian Autonomy Platform+ adds a new advanced feature to enhance the highway driving experience. Enhanced Highway Assist allows you to use Highway Assist while letting go of the steering wheel for extended periods, in certain driving situations, as long as you’re looking at the road. Enhanced Highway Assist relies on Driver Attention Detection to confirm that you’re paying attention to the road ahead of you.

What are they using for driver attention detection?

Gen 2’s have a camera in the review mirror that monitors the driver. I believe they are enabling that in this update. That camera will verify the driver is paying attention to the road.

Ok, I have thought more about this enhanced highway assist feature. It's cool, but what is the practical use of the notion that you can take your hands off the wheel, but your eyes have to be looking forward? What is the real use case of that? If I have to keep my eyes looking forward, why would it matter if I could take my hands off the wheel? In what scenarios is this helpful practically, when I am actually driving and using it?

When driving for 6-12 hours, keeping your hands on the wheel can get tiring as there are only so many comfortable positions to keep your arms while still steering. The capacitive touch makes it somewhat more manageable as you don't have to rotate the wheel, but keeping your arms on the armrests will be more comfortable. I am doing this very thing next Friday so I'm hoping my truck is updated before then.

If I were considering a new Rivian, I'd be watching these release thread conversations to see how long they support a previous gen. If they deprecate support very quickly, I'd be very leery of buying anything from that company, as if you have any issues, there may be no fixes.

Quite honestly, it is concerning to me how quickly the Gen 1 became yesterday's news to Rivian. Fortunately, I took the approach when I bought a used Rivian, that the current functionality shipping would meet my needs while hoping no major bug fixes were required. For original owners of Gen 1's they didn't have the luxury of reading the land a little bit and bought in good faith. I am not 100% sure that was warranted as I see how Driver+ has played out. My friend's 5 year old Tesla has seen better support...

I am still shocked that there isn't a texting app, especially at this price point. I guess that is why you need hand's free driving so you can actually text.

I think they missed it in the release notes but I've asked and will update once I get an answer. Can't imagine it not being fixed in one generation.
