R2 unexpected Drain - 7% over 4 days.

My R2 sat all weekend, gear guard off, and appears to have only woken up one single time on Sunday morning. Rivian roamer seems to treat this a bit weird on other pages if the vehicle literally slept the entire day away. Friday at 2PM it reported 84.1% SoC, which is what it's still saying right now, but it still has been asleep since almost 24 hours ago.

I'm tempted to just leave it be for a few more days and see if this changes at all.
Went and woke my R2 up to get something out of it. Gained .1% SoC since Friday 😭

So you would leave your Mach-e Gear Guard (or whatever they call it) on 24/7 and barely lose any power? Surprised by that.
It has no comparable features to Gear Guard. I acknowledged this discrepancy earlier.
It’s not going to sleep because Gear guard is on, which he stated. I don’t know why this post was even made by the OP honestly. His car is USING energy, by his own choice and he’s here complaining about it.
The vehicle state definitely does go to "sleeping" with Gear Guard enabled.

Perhaps you do not park inside the garage?

Its pretty obvious that GG (all the sensors and processors) is using the energy, even if there are no event being recorded.

I have a couple cameras outside, but in regards to Gear Guard - can it be enabled 'on schedule'? For example, can GG be active if my car is home, and it's between 11PM and 5AM?

Along these lines, I wish there was a way to have the handles retract without actually locking the car. I don't necessarily need my car locked in my driveway, but I also don't want it to be obvious that it's unlocked. I don't think there's anyone in my neighborhood going up and down trying to get into parked cars. But one that's obviously unlocked? That could be a target of opportunity.

On the other hand, not having this retracted-but-unlocked state means I can confidently check from a distance if the doors locked, so it would be a tradeoff. Perhaps with geofencing like Gear Guard it could work...

how far away is your keyfob and phone from the car? I see simmilar issues on other cars/brands keeping the car "ready" and draining a lot of energy when the keyfob is close enought to get signal.

My R2 has lost 7% sitting in my garage over the past 4 days.
This is pretty disappointing. I had hopes it would be better that Gen 2 R1S, but it seems the same or worse.

Yes, Gear Guard is on.
Yes, it has been a bit warm - mid 80s to mid 90s during the day.

But still. 😕
Sorry to hear that. It does seem like an outlier, but as an R1S owner, I'll assume you already know all the tricks to get your standby losses down. I'd keep an eye on it; my Gen 1 quad is closer to 1% per day with Gear Guard on.

I too would expect the R2 kW-hr losses to be on par with the R1S since they use mostly the same hardware (Gen 2), but I think it's flawed to compare % drop when comparing the two because the denominator (battery size) is much larger for the R1S, especially a max-pack R1S. For example, the exact same kW-hr loses are 60% greater when comparing the R2 (88) to a R1 max-pack battery (140).

Ignore the trolls; lots of us leave Gear Guard on at home.

Our EV6 regrettably doesn't have the same resolution in the battery SOC display (no tenths), but it can sit for weeks before showing a 1% drop in the battery. Of course it doesn't have GG, but I'm not surprised that if you have GG turned off on your R2 that it didn't even drop 0.1 kWh in the course of a day or weekend. 👍

Car wash mode does that in the R1, I think it does in the R2 as well just have not tested it.

Haha, that may just be the typical +/- 1 least significant digit variation that can occur. Hard to know without knowing what their algorithm is, and how rounding and averaging is done. At least Rivian has a tenths digit. I think many (most?) EVs like our EV6 don't have that, so if it drops from 50% to 49%, the engineer in me wonders if it's really 49.9 or 49.5 or 49.1...

This is true, without that decimal point and not knowing if they round or not 50% to 49% could be 1.9%.

Do you think Gear Guard shouldn’t use any power? How much do you think it should use every hour to keep all the exterior cameras on and running? 66 watts seems very low to me.
Of course not, that's why I asked the op to turn GG off and run the test again. That will give him a pretty decent idea of how much consumption is base operating system and how much is attributed to GG.

Edit.. I see the OP did mention the usage graph showed GG used very little power over the test period. Seems GG isn't the Droids we're looking for 🤔

They probably do track SoC that closely, but don't present the data to the driver. I know my Bolt EV would get decimals if I looked at it over ODB-II. This is using an external API to decipher the reported data.
