My R2 has lost 7% sitting in my garage over the past 4 days.
This is pretty disappointing. I had hopes it would be better that Gen 2 R1S, but it seems the same or worse.

Yes, Gear Guard is on.
Yes, it has been a bit warm - mid 80s to mid 90s during the day.

But still. 😕

If gear guard is on, you're using that energy. It's not phantom.

That is substantially more than I have seen in my ownership period. The phantom drain is very good on the R2 for me so far, even with gear guard enabled.

Is there any indication on the energy screen where the usage is coming from?

The keyword here is "my" - this is an issue with your vehicle, and not a fact intrinsic to the R2 as you imply.

I have not seen any reports of high drain from any other R2 owners. The reports I've seen are between zero and barely measurable drain. Your report of 7%/4 days is high even for R1. My Gen 1 R1T uses (not loses BTW) no more than 1%/day.

So it's likely one of two things:
  1. You have a defective vehicle, or more likely
  2. Something was left running. A/C? Did you leave a package on the seat and your R2 thinks someone is still in the car and it has to maintain the temperature? What does the energy usage graph say?
If your R2 doesn't go to sleep then it will still be doing things - the energy doesn't just disappear, it is used for specific purposes. Have you tried using Rivian Roamer to track your sleep/wake cycles? Is your R2 even going to sleep? If not, why not? Is your key stored right next to your vehicle so it always thinks you're just about to jump in and ride away?

The app has a sleep icon so you know when it’s off.

why would you run gear guard in your garage. Also, that wouldn’t be called phantom drain.

Noted. I changed the thread to say "unexpected"

Both the app and Rivian Roamer show the vehicle is sleeping.
how much was expected when using gear guard? I have never used it on my R1S so I don’t know how much electricity it uses but 7% in 4 days seems reasonable to me. My Tesla sentry mode I think would use more than that.

I shouldnt be expected to turn it off when I come home and on when I leave, should I?
I wouldn't know, as I've never used mine.

That said, if I were to use it, I'd expect it to draw down the battery.

Honestly I am not sure. I was just surprised you leave it on while parked in your garage. Wasn’t sure what the point of that is.

do people leave gear guard or sentry mode running 24/7? Maybe I am the weird one that doesn’t. For the people that do I am assuming there is good data on how much battery it is supposed to use.

I haven’t felt the need to use it yet on my R1S but I have used sentry mode before on my Tesla a few times. I do remember it using a noticeable amount of battery but I never tracked it.

We have Sentry mode on our Teslas geolocked to turn off automatically at home. I park in the garage, where I have a Tapo camera pointed directly at my car. My wife parks in the driveway with a Tapo camera pointed directly at the driveway. No need to run Sentry mode with two 24-7-365 cameras operational.

Does Gear Guard have the ability to turn on/off automatically based on saved/favorite locations?

EDIT — a quick google search shows that you can set it to stop recording at home 👍👍

I never really thought about it draining the battery or noticed. I need to learn what is normal, but cameras are low power devices, so I wouldn't expect them to use much.. Maybe a quarter of a percent per day I could see as reasonable.
