Would love to see model breakdown of R1 sales. Maybe the standard just wasn't selling enough to warrant production space.

The range (258-270 miles) in 2026 for such an expensive EV (starting at $77K) doesn’t seem worth it either.
Especially when in the real world a lot of people are lucky to see 200 miles in anything but perfect conditions. The Standard LFP has not been a good look for Rivian.

Exactly! I was considering the SR but had one as a loaner and the range was really bad.

Just ask yourselves - how many vehicles sold today have 3 motors?

And if you know the answer, then you also know that they all sell for well above $80K. So why do you think that R2 tri-motor would come in in less than $70K?

Tesla: Model S Plaid, Model X Plaid, Cybertruck (Cyberbeast).
Lucid: Lucid Air Sapphire.
Audi: Audi SQ8 e-tron.

Especially for the flagship vehicle. R2 eliminates the need for R1 to reach the lower end.

More likely for the R2 to reach higher with the right options to have some overlap.

As a G2 dual standard owner, on a 1200 mile road trip, I disagree. I’ve got the all terrain tires, never run in “low” height, and unless there is a viscous headwind, I’m always over 200 miles of real world range.

99% of the time I charge at home and don’t drive over 200 miles in a day. Stopping more often to charge on road trips isn’t as convenient, but with the $5k I saved, I can pay to burn the time at a great restaurant or hotel. It’s fine.

Boo. I prefer the LFP tech. Oh well, I’ll settle for whatever I can get… the next time they let loose that 0% on DMP, it’s a done deal. Been using AI to target the best time to buy… time to add more variables to the model.

Your examples are all the higher end or luxury models of each given manufacturer, no?

The R2 is specifically not Rivian’s high end model. It’s not an apples to apples comparison. Correct?

It seems possible that LFP is the real casualty here.....didn't they have a problem with calibration, etc. Or maybe that has been resolved?

I wouldn't be surprised if they adjust pricing on the entire R1 line when they remove this base model.
They may.

R1S Dual is $77k and Dual (not standard) is $84k. Maybe by simplifying production and ditching the LFP model they can price the Dual around $80k. It really depends on whether or not they plan to let R1 stagnate as an expensive niche model like Tesla did with the S/X, or if they want to keep it a pillar of the brand. Hopefully the latter.

I hate what Tesla did to their brand. Went from cutting else and cool to has beens that sell to people who don’t care about cars mostly.

They have stated that they want to keep the R1 as the flagship/halo model for the company, even if it isn't high volume.

No one is cross shopping an R2 Tri and a R1 Standard 😆

They're ditching the Standard because it has a totally different battery technology that Chinese suppliers dominate, and they likely aren't selling many of them. When R2 comes out even fewer people will, as R1 standard shoppers will cross shop regular R2s.

R1 will take its place as the halo. No brainer move for Rivian.

Yep. I could see the R1S going even further upmarket with future iterations once Rivian establishes R2 and the volume that will come. Perhaps get into Range Rover/Cayenne EV territory.

I think you are right, but I imagine the R2 Tri Ascent to be $79K. I'm waiting for the R3X Tri 1050 HP for $70K.
