Rivian just sent emails out stating that the SR R1 models will be discontinued. Is this a sign that the Tri Motor R2 will be in the $70k price range?

The tri won’t come down in price. This is a sign that the R1 will be positioned higher since the R2 can cover the $45-70k range

You miss read I meant the Tri R2 will be priced at $70k. This is what I have been saying all along. This would validate a launch model R2 at over $60k.

R2 SR SM $45k
R2 L DM $55k
R2 L PDM $62,500
R2 Tri $70k

Seems logical. However, if they do have a tri-motor max pack R2, i think it'll probably top $70k.

Apologies. Agree with your pricing except the performance dual should not be a $7.5k upcharge for essentially software - way more than the R1 does.

I don't think R2 will max at $70k - it's gonna be more in line with the Model Y which maxes at $57-60k. Removing the R1 Standard makes for a bigger gap between the two models so that things aren't too close.

This might also be due to a lower take rate on the Standard R1, making it no longer cost effective to manufacture.

Just remember no one makes a sub 3.0 sec 0-60 EV in this space the DMP will fill the Y competitor space. Expect the Tri Motor to be $70k + for the performance.

Rivian must be competitive with the SR, DM and PDM because they have competition. The Tri on the other hand is in a league of its own until the iX3 M is available.

The tri will be above $60k, even if the PDM is $55k (and that is a lower estimate than many on here) then adding a third motor and maybe some interior parts (like the ascent trim on R1) will push the price up.

I think you're about right. I expect the launch Edition (L PDM) to be in that $65k range and include autonomy and connect+

I bet the Tri motor will be $75+ it's my guess, this model shouldn't even exist, but if does charge for it.

I doubt we actually see the $45k, probably $49k by time it launches.

I think it signals that the margins on SR are really bad and it was only necessary for Rivian to offer when there weren't other options below $75k.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.

The range (258-270 miles) in 2026 for such an expensive EV (starting at $77K) doesn’t seem worth it either.

On a side note, wasn’t the tax credit cap $80K for a truck or SUV? Now that this is gone there’s another reason not to keep this trim.

No. It's a sign of wishful thinking. As manufacturer, you would make your flagship products cheaper to manufacture to improve profitability. You wouldn't ever lower retail price to cheapen status of your flagship product. Imagine Mercedes Benz were to offer a discount S-Class. They wouldn't.

The R2 Tri will be up in that $70k to $80k fully loaded range. I mean a 26’ Genesis GV70 Prestige Electrified is $78,500. A 26’ Genesis GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige is $74k. It is the exact same size vehicle as the R2 except for hatch and ground clearance dimensions.

Genesis base model starts at $49,000. So the spread makes sense.

I realize Rivian is NOT a Genesis but I own both so will make that comparison.

I really do hope Rivian can have enough volume and have their supply chain tight to be able to offer the base at $45k and find a way to have them lower the top $ of the line R2 slightly to maybe $75k. But there’s no doubt the top R2 Tri with start with a “7” in the price.

Yep. R2 Tri is gonna be a low volume insane trim making 800+ hp and will most certainly be $70k+ …and worth every penny.

The Standard, Dual and Dual Performance compete with the Model Y line and will be $45-60k. I still expect the launch edition to be around $60k and loaded, with a $50k(ish) non-performance, lesser equipped variant coming by the fall.
