"The best and worst vehicle to move with"

This could apply to R1S too. Tons of volume. But try putting a box that is 2.5ft tall in the back.

SUVs all around are the worst of both worlds; truck and car. Just get one or the other.
The R2 says "I sure hope you're wrong about that".... 🤣

Not really, it says that it hopes that Americans are still under this delusion that SUVs are useful and necessary.

Luckily for the R2, no one is going to wake up to that in the near term at least. I own a Model 3 for this very reason. I really don't need more. And it's surprising what you can do with less vehicle. (see how I qualified vehicle there!) On my commute, I see all these huge vehicles on the road with 1 person and nothing else in them. It's a sad sight but we must preserve our image!

Sure, some can justify it, no question. But many cannot. In Europe, if you need extra cargo capacity you hitch up a trailer.

That said, my next EV will likely be an SUV. Probably an EX60. But that's more station wagon than SUV so I absolve myself of any delusions :) .

Here's another great example of a pickup truck designed by software engineers.

Trying to move a washer/dryer tonight. They don't fit. The tailgate won't shut, not because the bed isn't long enough, but because it has an over complicated hinge system that requires an additional flap to cover the opening. It also has permanent storage for a tonneau cover that I don't have taking space at the front.

Also, getting in and out of the bed is absurdly difficult because there is neither a step, nor a hand hold to help with. You know, features that have been on every other pickup for the last 75yrs.

The more I try to use this truck as a tool, the more I'm convinced it's just a very expensive toy.

Also, to whomever was bitching at me about not securing my load at the beginning of this thread, I hope you're happy now. Have 8 effing straps on these two things. Wouldn't have used so many if I could've closed the stupid effing tailgate!!!

I switched from an old F-250 with an 8-foot bed to my R1T. The bed size definitely took some getting used to.

But I helped a friend move shortly before getting the R1T with my F-250; then I helped another friend move shortly after. The Rivian was greatly preferred. Between the cab being bigger ("extended cab" F-250 with short bench rear seat and no rear door,) the gear tunnel, and the frunk, I was able to fit a lot more "safe from the elements" than the Ford; fitting about as much extra in cab+tunnel+frunk as would have fit in the longer bed of the Ford.

I've carried a 12-foot conference table, 12-foot lumber, couches, king size beds, and more in the bed of my Rivian. The shorter bed has never hampered usability.

That has definitely not been on "every other pickup for the last 75 years". Integrated steps and hand holds are only something that has become common in the last 20 years. My mid '90s pickup definitely didn't have any steps or handholds.

Yes, fold-out step, even corner bumper steps, would be nice. But there are other new pickups without them. And a bumper step (my F-250 had one) is useless when the tailgate is down.) The Nissan Frontier (a similar-size pickup) has no step or handhold.

The F-150 Lightning Pro (base model) doesn't have the step or handhold. Only the higher trim came with that.

A friend was killed on his motorcycle due to a loose load. I said the driver should be charged with manslaughter.
Yep, some people don't realize it doesn't need to be furniture or a 2x4. A bucket flying at you on bike could be a big problem depending on the rider and surrounding circumstance.

Stake pockets are handholds. And they are quite literally called "Step Bumpers". Shits been around longer than most of us arguing about here have been alive.

You know what else everyone has had for the last 75 years? A tape measure.

Don't give me that crap that it's Rivian's fault your shit doesn't fit. You're like one of those people you see at IKEA trying to load a sectional into a Beetle.

And BTW, there is a step into the bed. Two in fact. I use them all the time.

It’s actually the 2nd thing I show people, just after I flip them down to show them the gear tunnel:

“…and what’s really cool is you can stand on them…”

Or just climb up the tailgate, like I do. It can hold 1k lbs, after all.

(I'd use the gear tunnel doors, but I'm a bit heavier than the states limits...)

I do have to chime in that's the beauty of a truck that as long as you tie down properly you can drive with the tailgate down and the flap in the R1T allows up to about 7 feet of space. One of these helps as well. https://evsportline.com/products/ri...ajccK34aBlF1_dqRqgpcKHWll_dpt0pDWqZusEoVmx_To

Getting in and out is super easy with the gear tunnel doors?
