  1. How much extra would you pay for your desired R2 paint color?

Anything over $500 is a cash grab knowing people are buying emotionally so will pay for what they want even if it's pure profit for the car company. With a few exceptions, almost everyone does it including Rivian. Mazda, Subaru, Hyundai are pretty decent in this respect. Typically I take what...
  2. Scout Launch Delayed to 2028: Report [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

I cancelled my day 1 scout reservation last week. I just can't support the emphasis on EREV. If that's their market, fine, but I'd rather support BEV initiatives. Credit was processed same day so good on them for that. This narrows my playing field to a tri-motor R2 which likely won't be...
  3. Scout Launch Delayed to 2028: Report [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Cradle to Gate: Volvo XC60: ~14 to 16 tonnes CO2e Volvo EX60 P12 (worst case model): ~18 to 21 tonnes CO2e In my area/energy source, parity would be achieved in 6-9 month. Though for me, 80% energy use will be from solar generation. I would anticipate the R2 to weigh in at around 12 to 14...
  4. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

The iX3 50 in Canada was up for reservations yesterday with a bonus BMW Wallbox for the first 300. I think it took about 18 hours to accomplish that. Pretty slow for an incentivized, refundable reservation. The R2 would probably take 10 minutes. (tariffs aside)
  5. Scout Launch Delayed to 2028: Report [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

I'm confused. I thought the Ramcharger had the generator...3.6L Pentastar and the Ram REV was the pure electric. Edit: Checked the ramtruck.ca site. They have mixed up the terms over time but it's currently the 2027 Ram 1500 REV they refer to as having the 3.6L Pentastar V6 Generator. It's as...
  6. Scout Launch Delayed to 2028: Report [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

It's not unexpected given the complexities of being a start-up in the automotive industry. I give them a huge buy on that. However, we don't know the exact details and in the absence of that, people will speculate. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to learn that it's mostly related to software...
  7. Solid-state battery race accelerates

Almost bought QS but went with RIVN instead. Whew! Though I might consider it again if it dips too low. I think they will eventually get there but definitely not this year...
  8. What did they do to ABRP?!?

I can't imagine not using a supercharger on any of my trips within 5 hours of my home. They are just that abundant whereas all other options are not to be counted on. Primarily due to having so few stalls but also reliability and/or charging speeds. No RAN chargers in Canada, either.
  9. What did they do to ABRP?!?

Interesting. I don't need it as I have a Tesla but I use it to check different vehicles like the R2 with. I just tried and it dialed in a trip with 3 options, primary one in blue (shortest distance) and charging location where I would expect but maybe I just got lucky. v7.01 (5726)
  10. Doug DeMuro Can't Stop Praising R2

Conversations don't happen at 0ms latency. I'd rather have AI that was cloud based and much more capable but with greater latency. Network speeds will only continue to get better. ADAS is always onboard. Rivian markets itself as appealing to the adventurous crowd yet what percentage care about...
  11. When R2 prices are released, how much is too much?

The Tri-Motor is the only one I'm interested in. For the torque vectoring, esp on snow. But if it's $70k, it's in EX60 P12 territory which would make it a hard sell.
  12. 2026 Rivian R2 Specs & Reviews!! 300+ Mile Range, 10-80% Charge in 30 Min, 656 hp / 609 lb-ft, 0-60 mph in 3.6s, dimensions

In the R2 - the road ahead newsletter that I received today, they link to the media story: R2: Hitting the Pavement Where it is mentioned: We reduced the amount of systems-on-a-chip from 4 in Gen 2 R1 down to 1 in R2, and this single chip achieves 200 sparse TOPS, providing more AI compute...
  13. NMC VS LFP Battery Safety - any experts out there?

I thought I had heard it all. I live in one of the most conservative areas in North America when it comes to electrical regulations but was allowed to install 2 LFP Powerwalls in my under-porch cold cellar. I was required to have a self-closing door and a smoke alarm and keep the rest of the...
  14. The best and worst vehicle to move with. [RANDOM RANT]

Luckily for the R2, no one is going to wake up to that in the near term at least. I own a Model 3 for this very reason. I really don't need more. And it's surprising what you can do with less vehicle. (see how I qualified vehicle there!) On my commute, I see all these huge vehicles on the road...
  15. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Some may feel it's not a big deal, and that's fine. I have no argument with that. But I think some people do have an issue with it. I certainly do. I don't want to be taking up 2 stalls at a busy site on a long weekend. None of the sites on my one trip have V4 or re-striped stalls. Or even...
  16. Compact EV SUV space getting crowded - BMW iX3, Volvo XC60, Polestar 3, Model Y, R2

Yes, at least we are talking about EV's. I am definitely cross shopping the R2, EX60 P12 and iX3 50. I'm also a big fan of the R1T. Each has their pros/cons. So to me, even among these, it's about managing my compromises. For example, I would prefer a supercharger friendly charge port...
  17. Compact EV SUV space getting crowded - BMW iX3, Volvo XC60, Polestar 3, Model Y, R2

I like a more traditional, at least mildly off-road capable SUV as much as most here do but recognize that people who are really into off-road recreation are buying vehicles specifically for that purpose and mainstream SUV owners almost never take their vehicles off-road in a way that even...
  18. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

A spontaneous, defect‑driven battery fire is so close to zero that it’s not a rational concern.
  19. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Here we go again. Regardless how they achieve it, both the iX3 and the EX60 have modern battery and BMS systems that would make an actual, full blown thermal runaway event extremely rare and even much rarer that it would happen spontaneously, in your garage. Typically It would require an event...
