Are people proactively rebooting/resetting their Rivians? If so how often.

I hate that I have to ask that question "these days" (as opposed to 30 years ago when rebooting a car would have been ridiculous). I've talked to Rivian support for various things maybe 5 to 10 times. Every single call the first thing they ask is "have you tried resetting the vehicle?" (hard/soft... doesn't matter IMHO). The fact that the ultra blunt response "just reset it" has reached this exalted place in vehicle support is sad, but hey, welcome to technology??

Related: I was thinking about this as I noticed my proximity based garage notifications seem to have randomly stopped working. I guess it's time to reset my car!

I rarely reset mine unless I have an issue. Most of my resets have been the infotainment reset. I’ve had the R1S over 1.5 years, 2 full resets, maybe 5 infotainment resets.

Not done at regular intervals. If I think of it, soft rest after OTA. Or, when I notice a software glitch, soft rest is the first thing I try. I only do hard reset when glitch concerns hardware behavior (like the one time suspension felt the same in soft and medium).

Only if I encounter issues. Hard Resets are not great for the systems. Having said that, I am not afraid of resetting but I do not do so unnecessarily.

After each firmware update, I reboot the vehicle.

When things are acting up or not behaving as expected, I reboot the vehicle.

Never have done soft/infotainment only restart - aways hazard and left toggle on the steering wheel.

Only when I have a problem, which is rare. Once every few months maybe?

It isn't a regular thing by any means. But if I get an unexpected error, I do reset it. I think the last time I did it was in March. Before that once in January, and then the prior November. And those were all due to a single problem that was fixed by a service center (I got errors/turtle mode after some high speed charging sessions). I think I reset the infotainment system once. I have owned since Nov 2022, 22k miles.

If you are having computer problems at work, and need to call the help desk, the first question they seem to ask is "Did you try restarting the computer?". Pretty much same thing with Rivian.

Only when I’ve had an issue in the past year and 1 month. So maybe 3 software resets and probably 3 hard resets I had to do while experiencing charging error messages in March. None since they fixed that issue.

During that time service told me not to worry about doing it “too much”, but that having to do it often is probably a symptom something needs to be checked.

I’ve done 1 software reset and 0 hard resets in 20 months of ownership. I figure the truck does a hard reset ever time new software is updated so I don’t need to.

None yet but I’m not getting good behavior from the auto high beams so might try a reset if all else fails.

Service had to do a reset on our R1S today after changing out the backup lamps. Can't remember the last time we did one otherwise. Probably been almost a year.

I will take this opportunity to remind folks that a sleep cycle is more of a reset than a hard reset anyway. Hard resets as preventive measures are not required as long as it has time to sleep.

Since last update had to reset a few times due to
Dash cam issue. I assume it’ll be rectified in next update. Lots of people having that issue
I just did a reset 5 minutes ago for the dash came issue. USB storage was unrecognized. Prior to this reset, it's been 4 or 5 months since I did a reset. Always infotainment.
