I was browsing Priority Tire last night looking at available 275/65R20 A/T tires. I was surprised by the number of generic tire brands out there. The situation reminds me of the prolific number of all caps, un-pronounceable brand names that have taken over Amazon. Like most of you, I’ve ordered many of those no-name products over the years. I’d say over 50% of them have been great - often at a steep discount to the comparable name brand.

This is a short list of brands I found with all terrain tires: Roadone, Arisun, Leao, Arroyo, Zeta, Groundspeed, Lionheart, Gladiator, Lexani, Delinte, Accelera, Mileking, Westlake, Fortune, Roadx, Fortune, Vizzoni, Zeetex, Americus, Landsail, Maxtrek, Thunderer

I’m not seriously considering any of these (probably going with either the new Michelin LTX Platinum or Continental TerrainContact A/T), but has anyone had any success with generic tire brands? My assumption is it’s a “you get what you pay for” situation but I’m open to bring surprised.

I’ve never been brave enough to try any of those generic brands for daily use, but I plan to buy one of the generic AT tires that Discount Tire sells to use as my spare.

Clearly no. Think about the legitimacy of warranty on the tire. Think about how they could affect your Rivian warranty. You committed a large amount of money to own your Rivian. Why risk it all just to save a couple hundred per tire? Some things make sense to skimp on (floor mats, washer fluid, etc.). But not vital components for car control like tires. Stick with known brands with warranties that actually worth something.

Assuming you purchase one of the no-name tires... who would install it (unless Priority Tire has local shops that install tires)? If I brought one of those tires to our local tire shop they'd most likely refuse to mount it due to liability issues.

Listen to Unsung. Tires are arguably the most important safety device on your vehicle. I'm sure Indonesia manufactures quality products but I haven't heard much about their tire industry and wouldn't want to be a pioneer.

You have an $80k+ vehicle. These brands are definitely you get what you pay for and aren't work anyone even considering them. No matter what safety equipment / tech a vehicle has, the tires are the last buck...grip is grip and without it you have nothing. Don't skimp on tires.

For sure. About the only non name brand tire I'd really consider installing would have Kirkland on the sidewall!

I am interested to see if anyone has installed these before on another vehicle and how they held up. Probably too much variability to make any conclusions - kinda like buying generic USB chargers on Amazon.

How would a tire choice, if the correct size, impact the Rivian warranty? That doesn't compute

Use your imagination? Lots of scenarios possible. This is probably the least bad. Let's say you experience tire failure, and that failure caused damage to your vehicle. You attempt to have damages repaired under warranty. Rivian techs inspect your car and realizes you have non-standard tires and refuse to cover repairs (why would they? it's not factory spec and not their fault).

Your house guest comes to stay for a weekend and they brought their own pillow to sleep on. Days later they sue you for chiropractor expenses because they strained their neck during one of those nights. It's not your pillow they slept on. You would assume responsibility regardless and settle?

As a blowout at highway speed can take the lives of all parties in the vehicle this is a safety item and you want proven road testing behind the product. Never skimp on tires

Tyre Reviews on YouTube regularly reviews sets of tires and tries to include at least one budget brand. In short, they are usually bad at nearly everything, and terminally bad in some.

But, also as he would point out, there is no one best tire. Tire choice depends on your usage and your balance of preferences. His website has the ability to adjust your own percentage of importance for different properties.

If a tire failure causes damage that isn’t a valid warranty claim anyway and should be denied. Using alternate brand but correct spec tires isn’t a concern for our trucks just like it’s not a concern for other vehicles.

That said, not only would I not put those comical mystery brands on my vehicles I also use them as bargaining chips if I’m negotiating for a used vehicle that has been saddled with that crap. ?

As someone else stated, the tires are literally the most important aspect of a vehicle as they are the only thing touching the road. It always amazes me to see nice vehicles with bargain basement mystery tires to ”save” $200
