My Tire & Wheel Journey for the Rivian R1T

I’ve been on the fence about replacing the factory 21” 275/55/21 tires on my silver R1T quad motor. After much deliberation and research, I settled on Atomic Wheels’ AW01 in satin black and Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT tires. Here’s how it all unfolded:

Atomic Wheels

I initially ordered Atomic Wheels’ bronze AWZZ but later switched to the satin black AW01 for their lightweight design and perfect fit with the Goodyears. Huge shoutout to Andrew from Atomic Wheels for his flexibility and customer service—it was awesome to visit their warehouse and see the wheels in person!

Tires: Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 vs. Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT

I started with Michelin LTXs in my cart but was drawn to the Goodyears after learning more about their OEM fit for Rivians. Here’s the breakdown:
  • Goodyear Pros:
    • Custom designed for the Rivian R1 platform.
    • Wider tread for better dry traction (+1” over the LTX).
    • Excellent bad-weather performance and no noise complaints.
    • Aggressive look, good performance and an affordable price with a 15% discount code (GOODYEAR15).
  • Michelin Pros:
    • Better efficiency and a 70k-mile treadwear warranty.
    • Well vetted on the forum and elsewhere.
    • Likely quieter than the Goodyears.
  • Goodyear Cons: Heavier, no treadwear warranty, less efficient.
  • Michelin Cons: Less aggressive tread design, look like minivan tires and higher price.
The Goodyears won out because I value traction, aesthetics, and rain/bad weather performance over pure efficiency and long tread life. Plus, they’re OEM-designed for Rivian, which is a big bonus.

The Deal

Using GOODYEAR15, I got 15% off the tires directly from Goodyear, making them nearly a “buy 3, get 1 free” deal. I then took the printed discount to my local Discount Tire, and after some negotiation, they did better than an exact price match.

Final Thoughts

For about $224 per tire, I got a set of aggressive-looking, Rivian designed Goodyears to pair with my lightweight Atomic Wheels. While the LTXs might have been more efficient, I mostly charge at home and will road trip in my Teslas. The Goodyears’ performance, fit, and aesthetics better aligned with my priorities for the R1T. I’ll report back after they’re installed next week!

If you’re on the fence, now’s a great time to grab them with the GOODYEAR15 discount before it’s gone. Not sure how long it will last but It has worked for me the past few days. I assume it will work in other areas. If you want to use another store that price matches, just take the printout after you've put them in your cart. I would have gone with Goodyear to install if they weren't 20 miles away from me. FYI - I also checked NTB and they won't touch Rivians in my area.

I can't wait to try it. I'll give them some time to break in and then see how they roll. One issue with the stock 21's is I get a lot of wheelspin when I launch. I thought the narrower LTX's would be even worse and that the Territory would be better than either. I hope am right about that.

I have to say that seeing them in person, they look much better than in the photos. Goodyear needs to update that photo on the website to show the correct ones.

Yep, I keep asking them to update to the correct images.

I’m at just over 600 miles with these tires and they are fantastic! I replaced the 20” pirellis and these tires make it like a new truck. They are quiet, smoother and shockingly look more rugged. Zero regrets especially since they are way cheaper.

I love the Goodyears. I never notice the road noise, the efficiency is relatively great, and they also look cool. Interested in seeing how they handle the much deeper snow that will hit at some point.

No they don't have them on the Discount Tire site yet. I've been tracking this for weeks now. I went into the Discount Tire with my discounted price and asked them to price match. They called up their Goodyear connection to order them. They'll be in just a few days.

If you do this, make sure it is the correct tire. I took the printout from Tire Rack and Goodyear, and had them validate while on the phone and made sure the load rating was 116. The wrong one (in the DT system) is 115. Hard to beat the price on what seems to be such a good tire. An extra 15% is a pretty rare on tires. The discount could end at any time.

As an engineer at Goodyear that helped design these tires, I’m proud to hear your positive feedback!

Yes, the Rivian tire has a 116 load index. Goodyear has a 115 load index tire in the same size designed for a different OE vehicle.

Has anyone taken a Rivian to a Goodyear shop yet? You can order directly from Goodyear and have it installed by them. There's one near my work, so I'm tempted to try them.
