If the glass is truly shatter resistant, how will you be able to get out of the vehicle in an emergency when all power to the electrically operated doors is out? Will first responders need to take an axe to the glass? I guess the one "benefit" is all the smash and grab vehicle item thefts happening in SF will be much "harder" if the glass lives up to this claim.

I would tend to believe that having the side glass be laminated is a greater liability than someone breaking into my vehicle to steal something.

To be fare, My R1S is barely more than the 3 motor spec at #6920 when I took it to a DMV certified scale a few months ago.

Not sure if anyone has weighed their R1T at a certified scale.
Assuming your vehicle is a quad motor with 22" (and no spare), the EPA filing says it should weigh about 6856#. So, maybe you had some extra stuff in there.

The lightest R1S Dual Motor 21" is 6722#.

For comparison, the R1T is about 27# heavier than the R1S. So, the reported Cybertruck weights are very similar to the R1T without 20" and underbody protection.

Saw the Cybertruck at Santana Row. It’s literally shiny haha but with lots of speckles on it— going to be hard to keep it clean.

It looks like an El Camino more than a truck.

Passengers seat pretty low to the ground. I’m used to knowing where I’d sit in an R1T. Cybertruck seating feel is at least 6” lower. CT suspension was on normal or high setting.

Drivers will have huge blind spots from the A-pillars.

The upper control arms are indeed the flimsy design. Actually making it to production I guess.

Departure angle is horrible.

Overall, I think Tesla fanboys will like (I mean they’ll buy overpriced Tesla beer and tequila!), but not sure how receptive it’ll be to the general truck world.

We will all find out next Thursday during the livestream event.
I wouldn't count on it. If they're delivering ten, it's going to be to hand-picked sycophants who have probably signed NDAs. I wouldn't be surprised if there are no serious reviews or price details for a while yet. (Get ready for some empty-calorie "walkthroughs" and "impressions" from influencers, though.)

(Side note: From all the off-road videos we've seen, the suspension articulation on this thing looks pretty miserable, at least at max ride height. Presumably they don't have anything equivalent to Rivian's electro-pneumatic suspension, which is going to seriously handicap the versatility of the ride.)

Could you get close to it or did they have safety rope preventing you from getting too close to accidently cut yourself on it?

It was roped off, but you can lean over and look through the windows and get close enough. Not sure why I would want to touch it haha

Yeah confirmed. The CT uses physical sway bars to control roll. So this will limit articulation. Rivians use their air suspension to control sway (McLaren style), so it’s a much more capable off-roader

That’s either the nicest thing anyone will ever say about the Dumpster Truck, or

It’s the worst thing anyone’s ever said about the El Cam.

I think it all boils down to the Cybertruck’s MSRP’s for the Dual and Tri Motor that will be announced next Thursday.

If the Dual Motor Cybertruck MSRP’s for $65,990 potential buyers may look past the polarizing styling and consider the truck. That MSRP would undercut the standard Dual Motor 270 mile battery pack R1T by $7k.

I think the pricing may surprise all of us. The Dual Motor Cybertruck was supposed to list for $50k back in 2019. If Tesla prices the Dual Motor CT near the $79,990 Model X the truck will alienate a lot of reservation holders and cancellations will occur.

When you look at some of the details you can see that the truck was designed to a price point. Three examples include the low cost minimalist interior, the pressed steel suspension components and lack of paint applied to the exterior.

There aren’t going to be many R1T v Cybertruck cross shoppers.

The crowd to be concerned with for Tesla are ice truck owners. Gas is back to near recent lows. And legacy oems are getting creative with vehicles like the ramcharger that offer great work truck specs without the concerns of range.

ICE trucks are $30-40k right now that can tow and carry pretty much what the cybertruck can do.

IMO, Cybertruck missed the mark by trying to please both the lifestyle truck owner and the work truck owner. Should have just went with one.

Aftermarket might make up for it with disconnects. Rivian's system complicates that potential.

I figure I had 29 pounds of gear (charger, recovery gear, some tools), if I subtract cargo capacity from GVWR (8532-1641) it would be #6891.

These weigh more than a full size SUV by about 1000lb but are a bit more compact like a Lexus LX. That they tow 11Klbs is a function of the R1T wheelbase for sure. The R1S at 7700lb tow rating outdoes quite a few SUVs but a GX can tow close to that with a WDH; otherwise the usual 5K. Wheelbase is the limiting factor for the upper limit.

It's not until you get into F250 territory with a 10Klb vehicle that you get something towing 20Klbs.
