The inflated towing numbers were probably an attempt to factor in the
Tesla should have said it could "yank an infinitely long chain".
To be fair, they may have been attempting to quantify towing their leader's ego ?

I work about 2 miles from the Tesla factory in Fremont. I finally saw a Cybertruck on the road. It was the one with "RC" on the side that people have posted pictures of.

Here is my honest opinion:

1. It looks like it was designed and assembled from spare parts from a junkyard.

2. After seeing it in person, I think it is uglier than I thought it would be.

I know people (even Rivian owners) are going nuts over it and can't wait to get one. I am not one of those people. We love our R1T....we love our R1T because it is stylish, advanced, and nice driving. The CT to me looks too futuristic and I know if about 5 to 10 years I will probably come around to liking it, but for now......nah!

The glass was never said to be bullet proof, just the body
If one has to be concerned that a vehicle is bulletproof, I would really question the areas of town they hang out in.

Maybe it is bulletproof in preparation of "MAD MAX" times.

Actual quote from the CT Forum

"I bet these numbers are well within tolerance ranges. A truck that weighs ~7k Lbs will pull an 11k trailer very well. It won't be as white knuckle as someone driving a Rivian pulling the same trailer. I would bet this would pull anything under 15k just fine."

Yes, because Tesla is definitely know for sandbagging numbers so that they outperform their advertised specs ... definitely that and not the opposite at all.

Pulled our new travel trailer yesterday that's pretty close to the "you must use a WDH hitch" weight number, without one, and could probably forget it's back there on the freeway if it didn't fill the mirrors.

I struggle with so much with where this thing is supposed to excel.

If you need a work truck and want an EV .. the Lightning is better in 99% of specs/use cases

If you just need a weekend project warrior day to day driver ... The rivian is massively better

If you are doing hardcore work or long towing ... you are just going to get an ICE.

Basically the only reason to choose this is if you like the looks or refuse to buy anything but Tesla.

Someone should tell that person the Rivian is actually heavier than the CT

Maybe you hate round steering wheels.

Dislike turn signal stalks and windshield wiper stalks.

Maybe your preferred number of wipers is zero, and this is as close as you can buy.

Could be you find a driver's display too distracting.

I could also see wanting hubcaps that stick out too far to protect the real wheel and tire from curb damage.

Maybe you want an OEM way to block tailgaters in bigger trucks from filling your face with light through the rear-view.

Thought you wanted to get a 6 seater truck but decided having a passenger that could sit so close was <fill in the blank>

Maybe your preferred way of carrying a ladder is like this anyway:

Rivian R1T R1S Cybertruck gets 11,000 lbs tow rating / 2,500 lbs payload (official) + "shatter-resistant glass" 1700591535553

Seems like they could end up being close to the same weight. The assumption was that the CT's 3500 payload was reducing the weight of the vehicle, but now that we know it's "up to 2500" that changes things quite a lot.

I was basing it off of the thread about leaked specs;

Curb weights:
  • 2 motor: 6,670 lbs (3,026 kg)
  • 3 motor: 6,890 lbs (3,125 kg)

To be fare, My R1S is barely more than the 3 motor spec at #6920 when I took it to a DMV certified scale a few months ago.

Not sure if anyone has weighed their R1T at a certified scale.
