I could be wrong, but I think it's the opposite and the differential is pretty small. The speedo will read fast and it's a small % based on the difference in tire size. The efficiency ratings will adjust once you've driven for a while.

Certainly not for everyone, but it's about $3,000 cheaper than jumping to the 20s, especially with a 60k mile tread wear warranty.

Reading fast will actually help me. That would be considered a bonus to me TBH. I drive too fast as it is.

What size on these tires? Also do they have the same load rating as the stock tire?

275/65R20 126R. Same load rating. I took my own pucks to Costco and the only thing they checked before the installation was the load rating.

Get the 20 wheels, get 33” inch AS tires, use one of the 21’s as a spare.

also the parts lady at the service center told me on Friday they will sell a single wheel but as with all things rivian ymmv. I’m gonna try to buy one come October.

Yep! 20s with 275/60 r20s has the same diameter as the 21s and 20s and has some 116 options that are lighter than what's available with the 275/65.

Here's a list of 275/60 r20 that are 116 and either H or T speed rating and are A/S. Just guessing that you aren't looking for an A/T or all water or something.

Are they the 115 rating? This will mean the tire is smaller overall then correct? So the speedo will be slow then correct? Say that I'm doing 50 when I'm really doing 55 right? That's a no go for me man what I'll save in tires I'll make up for in speeding tickets.

FWIW all Rivian tires are now a 116 load index.

Will Rivian sell just the wheels/rims and no tires? Website says “wheel and tire set”. I am sure they’d be happy to take the tires off for you - but not for a discount. My point is, if you don’t already have the 20s, seems like you should get the set from Rivian then wait for those tires to need to be replaced or you’ll spend even more money to get rid of the Rivian Pirellis and get some other brand.

To clarify: Rivian 21” has a 33” diameter tire. Rivian 20” has a 34” diameter. These are the “stock” Pirellis.

EVSportline has 20s. I know of some others coming out as well that hopefully won't be 3 arms and 2 legs to get. You can save about $1k for a set that way if not going for the Scorpions.

Get the 20s. Burn those off then get all season tires. You’ll have lots of choices and won’t lose much range compared to the 21s. Sell the 21s and get a full size spare or an aftermarket spare.

Okay guys. My truck has 14k and change and the fronts are 4.5/32 and the rears are 5/32. That means I'm gonna need some shoes. I burned this set off as if they were made of paper so that leads me to considering a different wheel and tire combo.

Unfortunately I have the 21's so there isn't any other tire compatible besides the aforementioned tissue paper set. I'm wondering what if I should move to the 20's or 22's. The 22 dark is what I originally wanted but I'm worried I'll run those tires off quicker than the first set.

I don't really want the 20's due to road noise but if I purchased those I could get an aftermarket tire. The other wrench in the works is when you order another set from Rivian I'm betting it's a set of 4 not 5 and I have the spare. Could I still use my spare in an emergency type situation?

Opinions from you guys would be much appreciated.

We know about paper tires, like the Scorpion OEM's - those have thinkner sidewalls that we could have used when brushing up against a not-so-sharp triler tongue. Fiurst week - kaching $325.
then a rather blunt 8mm allen wrench found its way into the tread of the replacement Pirelli, just close enough to side to be unpluggable - not even a patch from the inside (they SAY!!)
these are not very grippy in mud but we are mostly roadies.
As far as noise?
We are most delighted and surprised at how smooth this thing is - and we drive winfows down with no AC unless over 60 mph on the hi way.
We avoided the 21 because of lack of available tires (like our ol metric size bmw in the 80's) and the launch was available with 20 on short notice
We are definitely staying with 20 and hope to be able to get some vintage look American Racing wheels approved one of these days.

I was gonna have America's tire install the General Grabbers HTS60 tomorrow because they weigh sub 40lbs and that's insane! But was just told there's a nationwide shortage

The "safe" load rating options are limited to the Falken zeik's now. Guess I'll just wait for the new Defenders in October!

Yes, there is. I recall someone on here posting about the AS option but I don't remember the thread.

I am with you on the AT tires for noise and handling - especially if you are doing most of your driving on asphalt although in DC I am starting to believe that driving on the roads is nearly as bad as driving off-road....
