My new Rivian charger for my RIT max charges at 12 amps even though it's connected to 60 amps

Rivian tech support (after checking the installation) told me this is a known problem and requires a new software update in the future, with no time frame for delivery. Installation is correct in terms of dip switches and 60 amp service. I did not have this problem at my winter home (using a Rivian charger, similar set-up). Any one else having this problem?

Were the dip switches ever set lower? The Rivian will maintain the lowest setting of the dip switches no matter what higher setting you put them on. Set them to the level you want and call Rivian Support, they will sent a code to the charger to enable the proper rate.

Speculation is this is to prevent someone from setting it to high once installed for a lower configuration.

+1. Tons of threads on this issue.

I had this problem. Electrician didn't have a 60A breaker on his truck so we installed temporarily with 50A breaker / 40A setting on the charger. After putting in the correct breaker and resetting dip switches charger wouldn't go higher. Hit up Rivian Support on the website chat, they gave me a call and asked for a few pictures of the install. Once they confirmed correct installation they sent a code to the unit to resolve issue.

Obviously you will need to have the unit connected to your WiFi, but the entire process shouldn't take more than 24-48 hours.

I haven't had this issue, but I've heard of others experiencing it. Here's one similar thread. I wouldn't accept the advice you got from that phone call and would continue troubleshooting. Try resetting both the charger and truck. Try changing the dip switches to a different setting according to the charger's manual to see if a different charge rate works.

Here's one thread on a similar issue:

You have to get Rivian to push a config change to your charger from the cloud. It will be limited to the previous setting (regardless of dip switch settings) until they change it. They will want pics of your wiring and settings to confirm the setup on your end first.

Thank you all for your responses. Rivian did wifi link to the charger. I'm not sure what they did. They also walked me through a reset of the charger (breaker off for 2 minutes). I did send them photos of the wiring and the dip switch settings. I am not certain if the initial dip switch settings were changed, but the electrician said the default was 48 amps, which is what should be being used. And the charge limit on the Rivian screen show a maximum of 14 amps initially, no higher options available, then if I set to 12 amps, it no longer lets me charge at 14 amps, only at 12 amps.

I can call Rivian tech support again tomorrow. It just takes so much time to get the right person.

What is the upside of buying the Rivian charger? I never even considered it at the price Rivian lists it for.

Tell them you need to talk with someone who can issue a remote reset to your wall charger.

There was some rulemaking a while back on this. Without this locking functionality, it required specific variations in installation regarding circuit breakers and disconnects. However, the rules did allow the changing if it was not user accessible without special tools, which is the case for the Rivian, so I'm not sure what's the issue.

So now that I’m reading this, what should I be seeing with a 60 amp breaker with 6 gauge wire? My wall charger says it’s delivering 11kwh and approx 22-24 miles of charge per hour. Is that not correct?

That is correct for a 48 amp draw on a 60 amp circuit.

I get 48AMPS from a 50 AMP breaker (direct wired to the changer, no plug) and the charge rate is about 11 kwh or 26 miles an hour. Sometimes on conserve I get 27.

Full disclosure this is a Chargepoint Flex, not the Rivian, I like having all my history in there and it do a great job estimating my usage cost
