Report back as I’m interested to hear about the Max pack availability.
Turns out my call was about my initial order from 2018 that I configured as a Max pack. My guide, Kevin, was giving me the option to join the R1 Shop. I politely declined and he said I'm still looking at some time in 202? The call took all of 8 minutes. A bit disappointing, but I've never been the first kid on the block to get the new toy - if I ever got it at all!

I have a strong feeling that they’re pushing as many vehicles into the hands of customers to not go belly up or to prove something to the shareholders.
If our call is about the shop, we’ll turn it down as well.

I don't think they are pushing vehicles not to go belly up. I think, as some folks have stated, trying to match "orphaned" vehicles in which people changed their config last minute. For example, someone might have wanted LS and switched to EC last minute. Since that person no longer wants LS, they need to find a match. Given they still have a boatload of cash, don't think Rivian is at risk to go belly up in in the near future

There are like 70,000+ orders and (probably) dozens of orphaned trucks. There is no “push” here — this market is 100% pull.

It's not a push. It's a reaction to the large number of order holders who fill this forum with posts saying things like "I'll literally take any configuration" or who have even a little flexibility.

They've included verbage in the past few emails that if you are 100% sure of what you want (ie Max Pack, OC, etc.) Then that is fine.

The shop email this week language was:

"Of course, if you prefer to get exactly the configuration you preordered, this process won’t impact you"

To my surprise and disbelief I now have a guide!

RJ’s recent letter to shareholders again confirmed 25,000 vehicles, which includes EDVs, for 2022. Also mentioned is the impending battery shortage.

I think I will purchase the R1T provided things at Rivian don’t deviate.

I am concerned about all the QC , reliability issues being reported.

I understand it may go pretty fast once a guide is assigned. (We have a call with ours tomorrow despite the fact that we have a R1S configured.)
When you say you’ll go ahead with the purchase if things at Rivian don’t deviate, how much time do you give yourself to make that decision? They may tell you they have a truck ready to go…

I can assure you that getting a guide at this point doesn't mean what it used too. I believe in one of the previous Rivian emails they stated they intended to get everyone that had a 2022 delivery estimate assigned to a guide and get configs locked in. Either way I have had a guide since 4/28 and still no truck. I have even offered to take another config if it meant getting my truck sooner. I have a signed PBA from 4/28 also. I was told i was assigned a VIN onn 5/16 that was "In production" but no update since then on where in the process it is or any type of time frame despite numerous attempts to obtain such info. I am completely in the dark.

I have an R1T Max Pack, resv date 7/19, with a 1H23 delivery and an R1S, 11/21 resv date, with a 2H23 delivery. I had a guide assigned last weekend and a call this past Monday. The call was all about building a connection with the customer. No hard sell and no promises, but the possibility to accelerate delivery if I want to switch configs. I don't plan on changing the config for my R1T, but who knows maybe the R1 Shop might change my mind. The interesting thing was the guide said that he will be my guide from here on out for both vehicle. After 3 years of watching and waiting it was a welcomed call even if nothing materialized from it.

Picked up my truck at the El Segundo Service Center today.

The whole process including with my trade in was super easy. My delivery specialist was thorough with information, really fun to talk too and excited to get me up and running. I also brought the service team 2 dozen donuts which is always a good start.

Only one known issue. The Underside of the hood needs a respray just in one section that they will take care of down the line when it's in for service. Nobody will ever notice, but they flagged it before I saw it.

Probably the best car purchase and pick up experience I have had. I ended up with the truck I wanted a few weeks before the start of my stated delivery window. That's pretty good despite all my insane speculation and consternation over the last 6 months as we wondered what information we could trust.

Hurrah! I hope that's catchy for others, too.

Picked up my truck from Costa Mesa today. Overall very impressed. Didn't find any issues with the truck at all, except when I got home I realized they gave me the wrong key cards (serial numbers in infotainment don't match what's on the cards). Still need to get the spare tire delivered as well as the rubber floor mats.

Initial impressions are good. The truck is very smooth, though I noticed at above 70 I can hear a high pitched noise coming from the motors. Radio drowns that out easily though. No wind noise that I can detect either. I tried driver+ on my normal route home which I sometimes use autopilot and it was flawless for 90% of it. Towards the end there are a lot of different colored concrete patches and it started to ping pong, so I disengaged.

Driving at 80 mph I was averaging about 1.8 kWh/mi. It was 95 today though, so wonder if the heat was reducing the range some. The only thing I miss from my Tesla so far is being able to send and receive texts with voice.

Nice! We tied. Score 2 for the SoCal teams.

I also didn’t get mats or spare tire but I was happy to just have the truck.

Just got the 8 steps reopened and now see a new VIN. I think there is going to be a push to get R1Ts out before quarter end. Have a call with my guide and Rivian Insurance to hopefully complete 7 of the 8 by tomorrow ?.

I am thinking also that getting a guide is a step but is not necessarily a home run. We will see how things play out.

So far no PBA and no 8 steps.
