I filed my amended 2022 return on March 9, 2024, which was also when I filed my 2023 return. I received my refund on March 19, 2025. It looks like they processed my amended return at the exact same time as my 2024 tax return. I don’t know if that was a coincidence. I received the direct deposit about a week before there were any updates to the status in “Where’s My Amended Return?” I also received about $1,100 in interest.

I called the IRS several times throughout the year trying to get an update. At no point did I receive any information other than “we have not processed it yet.” Each call was usually at least a half hour of my time. I would hold back from calling so much if I did it over again.

Received the check from IRS today for $8643.95 ($7500+interest). I had pretty much given up hope that it would ever be approved, but the appeal letter + documents worked!

Signed binding agreement in early Aug 2022 - finally took delivery of my R1s Dual Performmance Max Pack in Jan 2024 - March 2024 filed an amended 2022 tax return to get my Tax credit - and finally in April 2025 it got my refunded taxes to cover the credit plus over $1000 in interest. I income status and the price of the vehicle would not have allowed me to qualify had i not signed the binding agreement when i did !!!

Kudos to Rivian for acting as quick as they did when they issued those binding agreements!

I recently got denied for my amended return to claim the tax credit on my Rivian. Basically IRS ignored the " Explanation of Changes" I put in the form which explained the transition rule.

Anyone had similar experience recently? Do you just file again or try to appeal?

Happened to the best of us. I filed again (you're allowed 3 amendments) instead of appealing, and printed out copies of every single relevant piece of law, form, instructions, clauses. I used highlighters, post-its, the works! And paper filed so I could mail this doctoral thesis. There was no way they could've refused this time, and they didn't. :)

Great to hear that! Yeah, sounds like a plan of gathering everything and highlighting! Thanks for chiming in!

Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted to not only eliminates EV and clean energy tax credits but also adds a car tax of $250 each year for EV drivers. The bill eliminates tax credits for EVs, solar panels, and energy efficiency improvements that save Americans’ money.

Edit: Ignore me - as someone pointed out, the "amend your 2022" aspect of claiming the credit happened as part of the IRA.

While terrible and short-sighted, this doesn’t impact the subject of this thread - getting the “with binding purchase agreement” tax credit means amending your 2022 return, using the _old_ tax credit rules, before even the ones the House bill repeals.

(It actually only revokes the Inflation Reduction Act EV tax credit changes, reverting to the old rules. That _does_ eliminate the tax credit for most cars though, as the old rules sunset the tax credit after an automaker shipped their 200,000th EV. Which by this point basically all of them have. – unless some other change I missed made it to the final bill.)

I read it as eliminating the tax credit and tacking on a fee of 250/year for fully electric vehicles and $100/year for hybrids, if the new bill is adopted. Not sure if the new bill applies to existing EV owners as well.

Wouldn't repealing the IRA effectively repeal the transition rule that makes it possible to amend a 2022 return to claim the credit, the subject of this thread?
