Over a year ago when Hurricane Berryl left most of the Houston area without power for over a week (and over two weeks in many places in the area), I was quite jealous of the Ford Lightning and Cybertruck owners who were prepared/installed and able to simply plug their truck into the box in their house and switch over a bunch of circuits in their house to power lights, ceiling fans, kitchen appliances, etc. for a week with their truck.. those guys didn't need a $20-30k Generac install and yearly maintenance, didn't need to run gas generators all day and night with extension cords running everywhere for box fans and phone chargers, didn't need to toss out all the deer meat in their freezers, didn't need to live in the darkness; just charge up your truck before the storm hits. I was excited when Rivian announced an upcoming V2H solution around that time.. ...but here we are a year later, in hurricane season, and I'm getting a quote for a Generac. Oof.

Do tell.. while I see a couple of available devices, it remains unclear if they will work out of the box with Rivians. Do you have direct experience or knowledge of any of these devises working with Rivians?
I don't believe Rivian has provided a software update to support any V2H equipment.

"In Rivian’s recent 2024 Investor Day presentation, Vidya Rajagopalan, the company’s VP of Hardware Engineering, teased plans for a bidirectional charger capable of delivering up to 24 kilowatts of DC power. As a result, this makes it the most powerful V2H charger on the market.
Rivian’s new charger will be compatible with both first and second-generation R1T and R1S models, addressing what Rajagopalan called a “common misconception” about the V2H capabilities of current Rivian models. While the models have long had the necessary hardware for bidirectional charging, they lacked the software and compatible charger to activate this feature yet."

Until they do it it’s a scam they have promoted for years
There's a difference between "promotion" and "talking about a potential feature".

No where on the webpage for any R1 or for the R2 do they list V2H as a feature that's available, nor is it even mentioned. Go ahead and look for it. If it was there, that would be promoting.

RJ on a podcast talking about how it's possible but not an enabled/functional feature is not promotion. Just discussion.

That's still not promotion.

Promotion is designed to go out to the masses - TV/Internet ads, info/spec pages for a product, etc.

Investor day discussions are not promotion. On top of that, all investor day discussions have a disclaimer of how things may change in the future:

These statements are neither promises nor guarantees and involve known and unknown risks, uncertainties, and other important factors that may cause our actual results, performance, or achievements to be materially different from any future results, performance, or achievements expressed or implied by the forward-looking statements...

If you're going to use your truck for backup power in an emergency, beware that you likely use MORE electricity per day than you think. Below is a screenshot of the last day we didn't have AC running or charged one of the EVs. There's a lot of vampire drain in a house and if using V2H, you'll need to turn off some of the breakers. Note that in the screen shot below, we do have a jacuzzi and swim spa that accounts for some of this energy usage.

we are still in hurricane season, and most gulf coast strikes tend to be from mid/late August to October. :movember:

regardless, Rivian made the announcement over a year ago. I was excited then. I'm very skeptical now.
Rivian was talking about V2H before I got my R1T in March of 22. IMO one of the reasons they haven't shipped a commercial option yet is both because the UL certification for generic equipment wasn't available, and the SAE standard wasn't ready either. I don't think Rivian wants to ship a proprietary system.

There is also the switch to NACS (a new SAE standard), that threw a wrench into all of these projects that weren't at a stage where they were almost deliverable.

No personal experience, but someone here posted about it a couple months ago:

Came here to post this, this works and is available now. /Thread
This doesn't look like it's actually powering off the Rivian, looks like it's charging the Rivian off-grid while there is excess solar. I'm doubtful that the Rivian would be happy about power export under this situation.

I can't seem to find DIN 70125 at all.

At 1:53 in the video, there's a screen recording showing 0.8 kW discharge from Rivian to home gateway/small-battery. 0.2kW is being used to charge the small gateway battery, 0.6kW is being used to power the house, with the grid connection an "X" to show disconnected from grid.

The a few seconds later, it shows feeing both solar and Rivian battery feeding power to the grid and the house. (That one is only shown for about a second, I think including it was an editing error.)
